Yeah this was a great movie, one of my all time favorites. I believe it comes out here in the states at the same time. I will have to get this, as for right now it's the only Speilberg in high def and it's a BD exclusive.

I will be buying this release. I like Spielberg very much and glad to see this on Blu-ray.

Hopefully it will lead to more.

I didn't see this when it came out. I was 8; if it wasn't Star Wars, it was dead to me. But you couldn't avoid the music. And I can very clearly remember standing in a theatre lobby that holiday season, looking up at the freestanding display of the road and the horizon, and thinking it looked quite an ominous film; I don't think I learned otherwise until I was in my 20s. Looking forward to this BD.

This is one of those I cannot wait for. It will be a great selling catalog title and might get some studios to open up abit more.

You know, it is a very ominous film. What else would you call a story about a guy who willingly abandons his job, his wife and his children in pursuit of what borders on maniacal obsession?

Such a story would be unthinkable in our family-centric age. And yet Spielberg makes you root for Roy Neary so deftly that you don't even think about it while you watch the film. I spun the DVD recently, though, and I was amazed at how skillfully he portrayed the dissolution of the family. That's a dark core smack dab in the middle of this story, and if you forget the overwhelmingly transcendent ending for a minute, it's one of Spielberg's most harrowing dramas.

Of course, with the ending, it turns into Spielberg's sole Hero's Journey-type story.

I'm sure he'll talk a lot about it in his introduction, perhaps even more than about the UFOs.

I read that the journey you speak of was an actual reflection of Spielberg's personal life--where he had done much the same in his own singular pursuit to become a film maker.

I had forgotten, until I read it several months ago, that the disturbing bathroom scene, and afterwards with the wife and the kids all screaming, was added to the second version of the film and was not in the first theatrical release.

It is one of the few new scenes that, because it's so disturbing (I believe many families have moments like this in their collective past--mine sure did), that I really am uncomfortable with, watching any version with that sequence in it.

I'd like to buy this Ultimate Edition, but the French version is no longer sold, just the 2 BDs.
Can everybody confirm that if I'm buying the set on amazon.com, it will be the set with the poster and the booklet?
Thanks

The new Silver Screen column is up, covering Close Encounters of the Third Kind. See the Blu-ray.com front page top news. Interviews, behind-the-scenes, rare posters. Hope you all enjoy it!

It was excellent! I sure hope to make one of the rolling roadshow screenings at Devil's Tower one day. That would be incredible.

That was excellent! Super informative and well-researched! I enjoyed it quite a bit. Some of those foreign posters were a hoot!

Just grabbed this from the Best Buy trade and save promo. I haven't watched it in many years, so which version would everyone say is the definitive cut to view first?
