It's a good idea to check it out though. You'd be surprised. I stuffed a friend's computer subwoofer with Poly-fill, who had said the same thing you said, and then made a makeshift riser out of a small Amazon box and finally stuffed the box with scrap papers. The difference was night and day. Before, the subwoofer was chuffing away, which was practically all you heard. After, the bass had more impact, sounded cleaner, and was overall more musical, with less of the vibrations and sounds being lost to the desk, although the vibration was still there, just not because the subwoofer was sitting on the desk. It's just a thought. Building a small riser for your subwoofer may be the equivalent of purchasing an upgraded subwoofer, getting the best out of what you currently have.
