Thanks Crazy. It is not too high at 272 watts but as I mentioned before, it is an original M&K product. Plus, my smallest 10" sub only has a 100 watt amp, but I can crank it up with no problems, so, at least to me the 272 watts is plenty. Of course I am saying that, at this moment, but who knows what i will say tomorrow.

That has to be one of the Best Looking Plate Amps I have seen. The Colors along with the Heatsinks and the layout of the controls and inputs are Perfect. I cant remember seeing a Plate Amp that didn't look Generic](Like one or two places produced them all) But the M&K Plate Amp is a Looker. Shame it will be hidden from sight once the Sub is assembled and put into place. Last edited by talstarone; 01-27-2010 at 09:24 PM. |

I look forward to following your progress and see the Incredible Finished Result. And,it is like a Disease or Fever Spreading thru-out the Forum concerning Subs. And its now,Not a Rumor.I Will Be Adding Two More Polk PSW10 Subs to the Two I already have. So,I will have Four(4) Polk 10inch Powered Subs in my HT Room. Looks as If I will be following Big Daddy's Sub Law: Thou Shalt Have 2 or 4 Subs In A Room.Always An Even Numbereth,Never An Odd Numbereth. So Sometime in February, I will Have Four(4) Polk PSW10 Subs to Place in my Home Theater Room. If that doesn't help strengthen the Bass Output in my Room,I Dont Know what else to do,Unless I add Six(6) 18inch Subwoofers. |

I agree, it is a very good looking amp. I only wish they would have placed the input and output connectors further apart since my y-connector barely leaves any room between the two plugs. I may just add a piece of rubber or plastic to make sure they don't touch - I hate any time there's a chance metal to metal may touch, just in case. As far as it being out of sight, actually, my plan is to build an enclosure that will sit on the floor or hang on the wall close to the sub, so it will be visible. I plan on making it such that if you see it, it will not look out of place and instead would look like another geeky component in my HT. ![]() |

When I heard about the possible four subs, I assumed you needed the other two to hold-up your futon. ![]() As soon as I got my third sub, I knew I had to quickly get my fourth or suffer Big Daddy's glare of dissapproval (something I can't handle)! ![]() |

I'm posting some pictures to show the sub build progess.
Below you can see the inside of the cabinet, along with the upward-firing driver protective mesh. I am using a 12 AWG speaker wire, but I think it was too rigid (should have used 14 AWG instead). I had to be careful, when I seated the driver, not to bend the wire too much because the driver terminal could have broken from the pressure. Luckily I managed and the connection was very secure. ![]() Here you can see the front-firing driver in place. The cabinet kit came with the screws that fit perfectly on the driver holes. You can see the kit-provided poly-fill as well. Note the slight imperfection/crack on the bottom of the cabinet. It is totally cosmetic (I guess that justifies the B-stock classification) and has no impact what so ever. You can also see my home-made ~1" rubber feet, which I got from an exercise mat. ![]() Finally, here you can see the upward-firing driver in place. The wires are wired out of phase as required in this sub, i.e., the "+" terminal to black and the "-" terminal to red. ![]() I did get a chance to test the sub with the amp and it worked. The amp is a nice one, the auto-off goes from red to green when it senses a signal, which is how amp auto-off should work (I have two others that stay red). Also, I connected and disconnected the input cable and power cable and did not hear any pop or any sound of any kind. I have two others that have a loud pop when they are turned off. Also, I placed an order with Parts Express for binding posts, which I will be installing at the bottom/inside of the amp so that they are out of sight and easily accessibe through the opening at the bottom. So, now the next step will require some time, since I have to build the enclosure for the amp, which will require measuring, cutting, drilling, screwing, bleeding, sweating, etc. I love this stuff! ![]() Last edited by vega2K; 01-28-2010 at 03:03 AM. |
