That's just sad to hear. Count me as one that will not be purchasing these. I like my disc art and I was burned by an HD-DVD/DVD combo disc so I may just be bitter.

Disney has the right idea as far a I'm concerned.

I agree with this 100%. I'm sure advertising them again helped sales as well.

The people buying these are thinking of the money they are saving over the box set sitting next to it that is ~$15 more, they are not thinking hey I get a nifty free DVD version with it. Those people looking for just the DVD version are still buying just the DVD version, for even less money with no thoughts of future upgrades.

I WANT the Bourne set but I don't want flippers and I don't want to import. So Universal, this is one customer that's saying no to any of your movies that are released like this, no matter how much I want it. I can think of one exception and you don't own the rights to it. SW.

I would hope educated and informed readers see through these marketing tactics, that Universal is hoping to create the impression these flipper combos have been well-received.

The best way to abort this abomination as a consumer is simply refuse to buy them. Right now, it is very simple to implement. Just avoid buying the individual Bourne discs.
That article is nothing more tha paid propaganda IMHO.

I think that's the point...... people will buy this if they don't have a Blu-ray player yet, and when they do decide to buy a Blu-ray player, they'll already have a nice little collection of movies they purchased on DVD with the Blu-ray "Thrown in as a bonus"

Looks like I'll be waiting for the set to come down in price. If I wanted a DVD I would have kept my 1st verision of the films. And i do like the artwork on the disc. SO I will have to wait it appears. FLIPPERS SUCK BALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111: mad:

I disagree I think people will buy the DVD only version since it is a few $$ cheaper and will worry about getting the blu-ray version if/when they have a need assuming Universal will continue be selling the DVD only version.

Let's be honest the "average" consumer only cares about money and is very short sighted, they will see the combo as more of a waste of money at this point and not a bonus.

Unlike Beast I would just make sure the DVD player had an unfortunate "accident". I hated flipper discs when I collected DVDs and this isn't making me like them anymore.

I don't have a problem with the concept of their flipper disc, as long as they get the bugs worked out of them. There have been a lot of times I wanted to take a movie to the fire station to watch, but I have the blu-ray and all that's at the fire station is a POS DVD player.

I hate 'flipper' discs, it's no secret. However, here's my take on this positive feedback. It seems to me that Universal was genuinely concerned about the bad word of mouth these discs were getting right out of the gate, or they wouldn't have sent them to sites like this one and the HTF forum for them to tout their compatibility.

They probably learned quickly after that that really didn't do much to quiet the naysayers. So they took another tact to make it appear as though they're being well received in an attempt to quiet the small, but vocal 'flipper' haters.

For all I know these things may have been well received, but I still dislike them and won't buy them unless Universal makes them the only option on what I consider to be a 'must own' title. Everyone here who dislikes them should take comfort in two things. 1) Blu-ray Disc is still a market dominated by the enthusiast, and 2) As an enthusiast your actions will speak louder than usual until BD market penetration grows.

As usual, the bottom line here is if you don't like them, don't buy them. Stick to your guns because announcements like these are trying to weaken your resolve and call your bluff.

Myself and others have explained ourselves quite well, all you have to do is read up. I hate flippers and always will. Like WB's mediocre transfers, Universal's flipper discs will keep me from buying any movies that have them.
