Hahaha, well to be fair Braveheart was absolutely as good as anyone could've possibly imagined.. in my opinion way better, head over heals in fact from what I remember of the theatrical presentation of that film looking like. To think we'd have a Braveheart that shits on the theatrical presentation (resolved resolution-wise to my eyes on my display) 7 days a week... two years ago I would've told you you'd be nuts. It also restored the color timing seen on the theatrical presentation and LD that was lost on the DVD (which sucked my balls.)

Saving Private Ryan, based on the caps I've seen, looks absolutely unbelievable as well. Odd color timing (assuming this is somehow influenced by someone up to originally making the movie, either way, the choices they've made with this don't bother my eyes at all, the opposite in fact based on what I've seen - this is subjective though) but otherwise is just friggin' fantastic looking.

So, maybe the Sapphire label actually does mean something and Gladiator was just a stumble coming out of the gate.

Based on everything we've seen it looks that way anyway, otherwise Saving Private Ryan would've looked recycled... and really it looks anything but.

To base all Sapphire releases on Gladiator isn't all that fair.

Doesn't work like that though. Transfers that spectacular just don't happen accidentally.

Anything from old sources would've looked completely lackluster.

They certainly have the luxury of time! That one better be A-1, top notch. And they won't have to wonder if people care whether or not they do a good job!

I noticed an anomaly in the FOTR and was wondering if anyone else noticed it? I know there are a few others, but after Rivendell when it shows the fellowship hiking, when they're presented one by one walking up the hill between the rocks the shadows on Boromir's body and shield are blue. It's not like a blueish hue or anything, just blue. I paused it and went over it several times and never saw it again the rest of the film. It's very noticeable, caught my eye immediately.

I will provide pictures of it at some point tomorrow evening, and I'm not trying to cause a stir or anything (overall, I'm very pleased with the rest of the presentation!). I'm just wondering if anyone else noticed it because I haven't seen it discussed here.

BTW, I'm watching on a 42" LCD, color tempt: cool, and NR: medium, however, that's irrelevant so don't waste your time telling me you think it's that.

I'd translate that as marketing fluff:
It's on blu-ray, and blu-ray has the best PQ of any home video format, therefore, "the Best Pictures in the best picture."

'Gladiator' should be sufficient proof to most, that the only guarantee from "Sapphire Edition" is that you are watching a Best Picture winner on blu-

The difference is day and night, Bath; even if this forum does have its share of trash-talking AVS-forum-types who can't resist the urge to boast up themselves and their gear, or act like tiny ogres with Napoleon-complexes.

Hahaha, or maybe it's just you man.

I haven't seen anyone in this thread from AVS putting anyone else down because of their "gear," at any point.

The truth is? I thought they looked better than they did in theatres and I think they may have sounded a bit better too. What do I know though, I'm definitely not the most technical person.

As Ed McMahon would have said, "You are correct, sir."

Saruman was actually more dangerous than I remember him being -
He turned evil
He tried to kill Gandalf
He created huge armies of Uruk-Hai
He even possessed Theoden King and tried to rule Edoras.

Yes, absolutely, we should ban all the "obvious fanboys", with their damn constructive comments and civil discussion. Everybody knows that the internet should be reserved for pathetic displays of insecurity...

... oh, and porn, of course.

I think we will see a lot more positive reviews on this boxset,as more people view them.

I agree that some on this forum seem determined not to like the picture on these releases.

I took your advise and erased the Data, Turned off my internet connection and it worked just fine. Someone else suggested it was because of BD live.
I'm Just Glad the damn movie works now.

I believe I am correct here, so someone feel free to correct me if I am not....but even Saruman's voice had the ability to cast a spell on the common man if they were not of strong will....in the books, when Saruman first talked to Theoden from the balcony of the Orthanc at Isengard, his voice bellowed out and it seemed to almost "entrance" Theoden with his words...but Theoden proved to be of too strong will and rebutted.
