Just became a member have been reading and researching my purchases and rentals on here since I got a blu ray player. I guess 1.5 years ago or so.
Personally I love these films. When I first bought my first projector the first scene I put up was Helm's Deep. I am very disappointed by FOTR. I am not sure if it is the transfer or the actual production but I rented all 3 and I will not buy until the studio go back and improve the first film. As soon as I watched Two Towers it became apparent that there are major issues with the first film and given that they were released only a year apart it is quite perplexing. Have not yet watched Return of the King but based on reviews and watching the Two Towers I assume it will rock. If you love these films and are ok with the last two being fantastic and the first one looking slightly better than dvd quality than jump in and buy otherwise have a fantastic time renting them. I am glad I rented and I will hold off on buying until they fix up the first film, if they never do this I can live with renting once in a while or firing up the EE dvds. Its all personal preference but for those who are killing themselves as to whether to buy or not I say rent. People seem too keen to buy in general and I say if in doubt rent and if you love it buy it. My setup is Optoma HD80 1080p projector, Sony BDP350, Cambridge 840A and Spendor S5es. Screen is probably 70 inches or so And in my opinion there is a HUGE difference between FOTR and Two Towers. Some of my colleagues at work bought it and they feel the same way. Finally if it is true that they spent 100 hours on the transfer, and it may not be, that is a disgrace. FOTR: Video 2 Audio 5 TT: Video 4.5 Audio 5 ROTK: watching it tomorrow. Thanks everyone |

I've completely watched FOTR and TTT and I can say with the uptmost honesty that these films have never looked or sounded better. It's almost like watching them for the first time again. Really takes me back 7-8-9 years to when I first saw these. I'm having a blast revisiting these films.

I WILL get these eventually. I'm just looking for a nice price drop sometime down the road. The thing I love about the EE's is it's loaded with features. This release doesn't have too much . You'd figure they would have some new interviews in HD etc.

Watched the FOTR last night.
I honestly dont get all the negative feedback it got. The Shire is the worst looking. It is soft, but a big upgrade to the DVD imo. Especially when they get out of the Shire ![]() I give the PQ a 4/5 Audio is where it is at my friends. Great clarity and the LFE ![]() ![]() AQ 5/5 So glad I bought this. I was dead set on not getting this because of all the chatter on it. But its well worth it. If you are a fan of this movies (im a big fan), you have got to pick this up. |

I broke down and reluctantly purchased the LOTR Trilogy last night at Best Buy $59.99 (sale ends today). I watched several scenes from each movie and yes FOTR is the least flattering of the three movies. Is it terrible? No not at all and the BD is still better than DVD. Some of the long shots don't look crisp and clear (parts of the Shire scenes look amazing and others not so). I was slightly distracted from the movie only because I was looking for what people have been saying about the BD transfer of FOTR. The TT is much better and the ROTK is one of the best BD's I have ever seen! Of course the audio is top notch! Is it worth buying? Definitely yes as this is the best the trilogy has ever looked. And how long do we (I prefer the EE's only because the added scenes actually enhanced the story line) have to wait for those movies to hit BD shelves? Possibly two to three years if not longer!

I am glad a lot of people have used common sense and judged these releases using their own eyes, and have found the releases picture quality to be very good overall, and the sound awsome.
The "Digital bits" review had quite a lot of good advice in it,as they told people to judge for themselves, and it looks like a lot of people have. |
