These kinds of things are good for a quick calibration, but I STILL recommend that if you are serious about the quality of the image, get it done by a professional.
They can do a MUCH better job and cover more aspects of your system than a self-calibration BD can.

the free vs $300 issue comes to play here. i'd get a professional calibration when i get a new 1080p tv, but that's not gonna happen anytime soon. current tv was a $1800 720p 50" sammy rp dlp that is probably near the end of its bulb life. not really willing to drop $300 on it.

Too expensive. Also, if he spends less than a hour to do it I may just beat the crap out of him and take my money back.

I like the first pattern where they're trying to trick noobs into watching in the proper AR.

It's likely better than nothing, but not as good as a real calibration disk.

unfortunately there's no real calibration disc for BD yet, and i dunno if the DVD being a different format will yield unfavorable results.

looks like another AVSer is here after they closed down the forums there.

Yup...And, I believe your right on the right track in regards to the dvd. The results would likely be different.

The 1400's latest firmware is having some issues with both Ratatouille and Cars. Don't panic...they'll likely get resolved with another update.
