Question Klipsch Heresy III's vs Tannoy DC4T

Alright everyone, I am faced with a difficult choice. A co-worker has offered to buy my DC4T's for not much less than I paid for them (he's offering about $800 for the pair) and I can get some brand new (fresh from Klipsch) Heresy III's for about $950 for the pair, but then I will need to upgrade my stereo receiver to a pre-amp/power-amp setup or atleast a really nice stereo receiver (another $700-$2100)

I have only heard the Heresy's one time last summer, and I remember loving them, but that sweet deal on them suddenly becomes another big investment.

What should I do!?

If it was me, I'd go with the Klipsch and buy some tube gear.

You can find Yaqin tube gear all over EBay. Friend of mine went that route and for the price he paid I was absolutely blown away. The build quality was very good as well.

I have plans for something along the same line, ie Klipsch and tubes, after I'm done upgrading my analog setup.

I was the satisfied owner of a pair of Klipsch Heresy II Signature Edition speakers (with built-in upward-slanted riser) and loved them. Parting with them was a sad day!

Why would you have to upgrade your receiver at all? The Heresy loudspeakers are efficient as all get out (I still own 2 pair of Heresy I's). The Tannoy's are no where near the Klipsch in efficency. You would be able to run the Klipsch off of less power than the Tannoy speakers. If you love them it's a no brainer. The Tannoys are a harder load to run, but their highs also extend further than the Heresy. The Tannoy also has the concentric driver (gets rid of phase/time relation problems between the tweeter and the mid-range). So it's basiclly pick your own poison and enjoy!

It it were me and I had just a receiver - I would go Klipsch - if I had a high powered amp, I might just stay with the Tannoy.

I just feel that with a set like the Heresy they deserve more power than what my Onkyo 8555 stereo receiver will give them. I can actually get the HK3490 (120W per channel, 35A) for about $370, and it is atleast high current unlike my Onkyo. Then again I could always take the Heresy home and see how I like them with the Onkyo, and if I feel they're lacking something look at an upgrade then...

So many decisions!

I guess the main thing will be doing a side-by-side comparison of the two if possible... And maybe keeping the Tannoys and buying the Klipsch? Hmmmm

Put that tube amp of yours on those Klipsch and watch them sing Klipsch Heritage line speakers work very well with low powered amplification (i.e. single-ended 5 watt tube power amps). You will be surprised at what they can do

When I first got my Klipschorns I liked to blow peoples minds by hooking them up to a really small boom box and turning it up to hair blowing levels. As mentioned, Heritage Klipsch speakers are very efficient. By the way, I don't do that anymore.

Funny, I did something similar to a pair of Heresy speakers after Hurricane Hugo 89 (Puerto Rico) Gotta have some good sound! No power so the boom box was running off batteries!

How's your M-80 holding out? Have you had the caps replaced?

I gave up trying to replace my B-6 (which was ripped off in a burglary) and bought an M-60. The previous owner replaced the caps. I haven't had the chance to try it yet. I hope it's OK.

It should be just fine. I've put the Heresy speakers in a surround configuration at my church and I'm using Whafedale amplification. Pretty good sound indeed.
