Psycho worries - Blu-ray Forum

I was reading on Digital Bits that a lot of Universal's recent catalog releases have used heavy amounts of DNR.

Is Lowry Digital doing the restoration on this?

The reason is because a lot of Universal's catalogue releases are ports of the HD-DVD transfers but with added DNR and EE.
Seen as Psycho was never released on HD-DVD, there is hope cause they'll have to create a new transfer and not just up the bitrate on an old one.

I don't think it will affect this release. It's too important to film scholars and the Hitchcock films from Rebecca onwards are some of the most broadly appreciated (by scholars and audiences) films of all time--with Psycho arguably the most widely seen and known of all. If Universal mess it up with DNR, the legions of professional and amateur Hitch scholars will be outraged, and the sheer volume of complaints would undoubtedly filter down to casual fans.

That's right! I forgot because that made a whimper instead of a bang, likely because the review copies alerted us tro the issues before the release date.

Well all we can do is hope Universal doesn't muck it up. I recently saw Psycho on the hi-def version of Turner Classic Movies and it didn't looked pretty darn good..
I agree that it is a high profile title. One of the true clasics in alll of cinema so for Universal to screw it up would be worse than the crimes committed by Norman/Mother.

+1 I didn't even know that Spartacus was a Kubrick film. I'm not worried about Universal and Psycho. Just don't release that sh*t Van Sant "remake".

Most people including Kubrick don't consider Spartcus 'his' film. Since he came late into the production. I think 2 weeks into shooting and had little say in anything. Strictly a director for hire. Although it is a excellent movie IMO.

Don't even mention that Van Sant remake.

As far as the restoration I'm sure Universal put in the time and money to make a excellent restoration and hopefully the transfer will get as much attention. It angers me though that the restored movie was show at Cannes yet no one has commented about it yet.

Spartacus had a HD DVD transfer that was re-used and had added DNR work done to it.

To my knowledge there is no existing HD transfer for Psycho.

I'd imagine that Psycho will be done right, but it is Universal so I could easily be wrong...

I don't think Universal will release that piece of garbage. If they do they had better not make that many copies because I doubt as it will sell.

Psycho was never released on HD-DVD, but there is an HD transfer (or several). It's been shown on cable, and the last DVD release was certainly from an HD transfer.

Is there a right version? I keed, I keed. For Psycho "virgins" like me, we probably won't get it unless it has positive reviews and a very low price.

Yeah, it's sad but a lot of people buy/rent the remake thinking it's the original, and still think it is even after watching it.
