As I saw the thread for the Ultimate Hunter Edition, I was curious to see what people thought of it and wow a lot of people aren't making sense here! I just enjoy it no matter what, It does look weird to me with all the DNR. But what can we do? We don't own the rights to the film, only FOX does and they have the right to do whatever they want to do with the film itself.

Simple, don't sit and complain about the BLU RAY THAT YOU AIN'T GONNA BUY IT!. Those words are good enough, you don't gotta exaggerate to make your point.

I'm sorry that you don't value art. I'm sorry that you want everything your way. I'm sorry that life isn't fair. Do you work in the business? Well, I do, so yes I take what I do and the art of others seriously. Without it, you wouldn't have your movies and music and precious comic books. I'm sure all the creators would love to know you don't really care about their work, yet you continue to buy it and partake in it... why?
Well I was dissapointed a bit in the transfers[butt hurt to you] on those two.But the difference is that I wasnt calling people idiots for liking it,I wasnt trying to persuade people not to buy it, I had actually owned and seen the bluray without going off of just reviewers opinions,I dident send out hate mail to the studios,...and I dident think that they would single handily bring upon the downfall of the bluray industry. Theres a difference in giving your opinion and debating about it rather then telling people how much they dont know about movies and how they are so stupid for liking it in the first place.Thats what alot of "purists" on here seem to do. Did the director of the movie hold a press conference and show his distaste in the transfer and urge people not to buy it because it completely ruins what he set out to do? When that happens get back to me. I partake in it because I love the movie.....I bought the Blu...TWICE. I own both editions but I like this transfer better then the other one.To me thats no big deal and my opinion.... To you that instantly means that I dont care about art and want to see everybody creations completely destroyed. I highly doubt this release will "kill bluray" and that you may be overreacting just a tad.

I did a dirty thing and went ahead and picked this up at Walley-world. I've looked at it, and while I'm sickened by some parts that I saw, I do feel like this is somewhat of a better transfer than the previous release. Have yet to see the whole thing and will write on here again when I do. Besides, I just had to have the new box-art.

But of course we still have the option to go buy the Barebones edition aswell so we have no real complaints as there are two version out now and FOX is a Business and of course they want to make a cash in on the new PREDATORS movie.
I big to differ. If Fox had treated Predator like Big Trouble In Little China, we wouldn't be having these epic arguments in this thread. THAT'S how you handle a catalogue title, not sh!t all over it like they did here.

A DNR porno, perhaps.

Btw: I also noticed how the ultimate hunter edition has more special features than the previous release. Anyway, I couldn't decide between the two releases, but I went ahead and got the UHE.

Pro-B
The average size movie screen is 30-foot by 70-foot

Unless you are watching a FILM on this size screen, being PROJECTED, then the integrity of the content has been compromised.

The Director carefully planned each shot for a movie theatre screen, NOT an HDTV.

The Director artfully planned out the pacing of the film; if there was meant to be Pottie Breaks, there would be intermissions.

The very nature of home presentation is a compromise of the original intent of the Director. Everyone here arguing about not messing with the work of the Director while watching it on Blu-ray is condradicting themself.

What might the size of a large theatrical screen be?

so now we've gone from arguing that we like the DNR to "well ANYTHING besides a big theatrical presentation on projector with film spools is a compromise so Anything they pull is ok because home cinema is just one big compromise"... wow, talk about straw men

Not necessarily. Some projects were meant for cable or DVD but got picked up for theatrical distribution.

That may sound like nitpicking or arguing over semantics, but your post is one of the sillier in an indefensible position (i.e. preservation is a waste of time).

still think new edition is excellent with what fox had to work with, but can see why the grain lovers are dissapointed at the same time, its a catch 22 for fox, maybe they did go too far in the opening scene with carl weathers but i thought arnold looked detailed and the rest of the transfer was superior to any other predator version ive seen before.

How do I switch from Neither to 2008 Release?
After watching the Ultimate Hunter Edition it is evident that no one at the Fox quality control team gives a sh*t about film as a medium.

Predator will be released on bluray again. People will double dip and triple dip again.

The people against this new bluray arent heroes. You are not making any statement by boycotting. It doesnt matter that this bluray was messed up because Predator is the type of catalog title that gets released over and over again (such as Terminator 2, Alien, or Die Hard) whether we like it or not.

Who is the naive person in here that believes that if you buy one bluray, that is going to be the one you can keep the rest of your life with no need to double dip? These companies want to make money. If you are upset with the DNR version, dont worry, another one will be made, you just need patience.

you don't know what you are talking about. 90% of this film is DNR'd
It's annoying to watch. And that shot of Arnold falling through the air and into the waterfall looks like 240x120 video size file.

think fox where out to make the best looking edition as possible! Predator has always been a heavy grainy movie. But at least we have two editions to choose from. im not a grain hater or a grain lover i think there is a 'in between' really if they wanted to make everyone happy that is.
