A must own title for any film lover, not just Criterion fans.
I think I'll watch that tonight.

Kick-Ass

i'm hopeful that i just wasn't in the mood tonight to watch Kick-Ass because right now it sits as one of my worst blind buys ever.

i couldn't even finish the damn thing. i watched up until
[Show spoiler]Big Daddy kills all the gang members with the 28 Days Later music
and then i was like, "alright, getting ready for bed. this can wait."

i laughed twice during the film (up until where i stopped) and while i really enjoy (so far) Nicolas Cage in the film, nothing else interested me.

EVERYTHING was "meh" for me and nothing else.
i can see why others enjoy it. but dozens of other movies do the comedy better and the directing here is lackluster at best. and Dave is about as mundane and uninspired a character as you can possibly get. a harry potter / michael cena combo just doesn't make me laugh.

no score since i didn't finish it.
will watch with a lady friend later this week, so we'll see what happens then...

Not Forgotten - Weird film about a kidnapping involving voodoo and black magic. The acting was ok but it was a bit to weird for me regarding the magic and curses. Paz Vega is a very sexy actress though. I still thought the film was decent and I am glad I did view it but I wouldnt watch it again.

Film Rating - 3 stars (out of 5)

Got Em!!

I watched Sunshine tonight.

Saw it once before when it first came out on DVD and enjoyed it, think I gave it a 3.5/5 when asked to compare it to Moon by our own Dr. Squid.

I enjoyed it more this time.

The
[Show spoiler]burned-up-7-year-in-space-man-who-won't-die
didn't ruin the third act for me...but
[Show spoiler]he
does feel insanely out of place.

I would have liked the story to play out nearly exactly how it does in the actual film with just a few small changes.

[Show spoiler]The airlock being broken would have been better if it WAS a mechanical failure of some sort and not the guy from the first crew.

I suppose the killings still needed to happen to create drama for the climax of the film. I think that could have been accomplished by having Harvey stick around and having a psychotic break or something. He seemed pretty whacked out already.

Or maybe major changes could have been made there was some other reason for tension/drama at the climax of the movie, I don't know

Just something more fitting than the random 7 year space survivor.

But like I said, I don't think that ruins the movie, in fact it is an interesting jump from the otherwise moderately realistic feel of the movie (huge scientific inaccuracies aside, it is science FICTION after all ); I would just rather the feel have remained the same to the end of the movie instead of taking a "what the hell?!" shift.

Anyway...

The acting was pretty good. Evans and Murphy are my favorites in the film, they both did incredible.

Yea, yea, not a very in depth review at all (which I probably could write one), but I just don't feel like it

Rating - 4.25/5

Seems like I've seen a lot of hype over this film, but between you and Ebert, I'm getting skeptical. My blind-buy won't come out for a month yet (UK steelbook edition), so I'll rent it first.

I read the comic, so I'll be interested to see how the film compares.

The movie is pretty good, on a pure entertainment level. A lot of the character development was lost in translation from comic to film, though. And there were plenty of unnecessary changes. I still found it good enough to purchase.

Have any of you guys ever seen Wind Chill with Emily Blunt?

Here's the trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiwyITqDZlk

Don't read the comments on the video's page though because I think someone ruined something about the movie.

I saw it some time last year and just randomly remembered about it tonight. I remember thinking it was pretty good and was wondering if anyone else has seen it.

If you haven't seen it, I don't think there's anything in the trailer that is really that spoiler-y.

Unless you are paying close attention to everything, when the movie is over it will probably be the first time you realize that
[Show spoiler]none of the characters have names

I never even noticed when watching

Rambo extended cut: Love the changes made to this version. This is now my definitive version of the movie. Only thing holding the score down some is the pq on some of it is hazy looking. 4/5

Kick-Ass: Loved it, loved it, loved it. One of my favorite movies right now. 5/5

If you mean Return of the King, I have to agree. Excellent transfer for a movie about 7 years old, also.

I actually picked it up on DVD a few months ago out of the $5 bin at Wal-mart. I thought it was pretty good. Had an almost Twilight Zone-like vibe to it.

$5 huh? That's not bad.

Yea, I thought it was an interesting movie. I think Twilight Zone-ish is a good description of it. I'd like to see it again one of these days.

Maybe I'll see it in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart here.

Kick Ass
9/10
I'll need to watch this a few times to see all the moves Hit Girl can dish out.

The Replacement Killers
8/10
I'd make a post on The Replacement Killers as a under rated shooter flick but, probably doesn't have much of a fan base, I dunno.
I loved it. Big replay value for me.

I agree, she's ridiculously fantastic, she's really good in Sunshine Cleaning but the movie is so so though...

Default The Road

I had read the book absolutely loved it and was very interested to see how it would translate onto film. For the most part the adaptation was handled very well. There are some terrific shots that just underscore the carnage of the apocalyptic event, the scene where the Father and son are on the overpass exemplifies my point.
[Show spoiler]I have two small gripes and they are very minor, I think the director could have done a better job of bringing the weather into film. In the book the weather plays such a crucial part of the story, to the constant rain, ash, cold, etc….I just think in the film it could have been portrayed better/with more affect. The other gripe is the scene when the Father swims to the boat, it just felt lacking, as in the book, it would have been cool if the film showed the Father exploring the boat to find anything of substance. There was so much tension in the book during that exploration of the boat, the boy on the beach and the man robbing all their possessions. I did not feel that same amount of tension in the film and if handled a bit differently it definitely could have been more substantive.

The PQ and AQ were both very impressive. The night scene with the Viggo and Duvall stands out in my mind as high definition perfection.

PQ: 4.5/5

AQ: 4.5/5

Film: 4/5
