Same thing happened to me when I added the XPA-2. It wasn't as noticeable with my LPA-1, but then again I didn't tend to crank the LPA-1 as loud (for obvious reasons). With the XPA-2, depending on the material and once I got to a certain volume level my prior speakers noticeably became restrained. I never felt I was listening to cones with those speakers until getting the XPA-2. It only took a month after getting the XPA-2 before I did a speaker upgrade.

I should be happy then, I bought my Paradigms off of Audiogon 2 weeks before I got my XPA-3.

Indeed! Paradigms were on my list. I had looked/obsessed at DLS's gallery sooooo many times that the Studio 100s were almost an inevitable upgrade, and I was more than pleased with what I heard when I auditioned them. If AV123 hadn't put the Rockets on sale (I scored the 850s for $899, more than 1/2 off) I'd have a Paradigm setup.

I've got quite the laundry list of speakers to go out and demo. I have been scanning galleries for a while now, and I'm liking quite a few. The hardest part for me is to find a dealer locally that carries some of these brands, so that I can go and listen to them. Well, that and the actual money to buy them! One thing at a time, I suppose. Here's a partial list

-B&W 600 series
-Paradigm (Monitor and Studio)
-Monitor Audio Silver series
-Axiom Audio M80v3
-and since I like my current speakers, Elemental Designs DL series.

That's just what I've come up with in the last few hours. I'm sure there's more, and I'm still looking at galleries and reading the "Official ________ speaker" threads here. Looking at getting into reading reviews soon, saving cash, deciding what music and movies to take with me when I go and demo some speakers, etc. I'm already tired.

Have you checked out each speaker's website? There should be a dealer locator you can use to locate a dealer around where you live. Here is Paradigm's.....look under Paradigm (next to Preference) and you will see the Dealer tab. Just type in your zip code and you should find some around you.

I love B&W speakers and I used to have a 602s3/601s3/lcr60 combo and it was great for HT but not that great for music IMO. I know there is a new 600 series lineup but looking at the brands/models in your list (especially the Paradigm Studios) I would also audition the CM series. Good luck.

I have had one problem since I've gotten my Emotivas, but it's been happening more frequently. I e-mailed Emotiva 2 days ago, but haven't gotten a response.
Not all discs do this, but a lot do. I put it in and once I press PLAY and the movie starts, the movie company's logo comes up and I get a very loud crackling coming from all my speakers, except the subwoofer. Once the logo is done and the movie starts, it stops doing that...very weird. How do I fix this?

Haven't tested an MGM title. It's not just static or fuzz, it's LOUD crackling and shrieking.

It's happened with 20th Century Fox, Paramount, and Universal. Happened with Drag Me To Hell when just selecting a scene from the menu. Had to restart everything.

This has never happened with any of my Lionsgate titles, but it does with Paramount, 20th Century Fox, and Universal.

What are you using as a blu-ray player? If you have a volume control on your blu-ray player (like a PS3), make sure it is set to "0". It sounds like digital distortion to me from too high of an input signal.

Momitsu BDP-899. You can see it in my HT Gallery.

I didn't get this problem with the receiver that I had before the Emotivas.

I don't think it's the Blu-Ray player since it doesn't happen during the movies and didn't happen before.

Has this been happening the entire time you had the UMC-1, or did it suddenly start?

It would still be worth your while to check IMO, especially since those studio trailers are significantly louder than the actual movie.

The only other thing I can think of is if the studio trailer is only encoded in say Dolby Digital 2.0, in which case the UMC out of the factory is set to default to Dolby PL IIx. Check and see if it's PLIIx on the little pop-up that the UMC displays on your TV with codec information. There have been many who have reported Dolby PL IIx sounding scratchy, myself included. If that's the case, you can try assigning a different processing codec (DTS NEO:6 Cinema 6CH) from Setup/Advanced Playback menu for Dolby D 2/0. You can set each input independently.

It started suddenly, didn't get this problem at first.

This doesn't happen during the DTS-HD thing at the beginning of other movies. Didn't happen during the one in front of The Collector either.

For The Transporter, I believe it said MultiPCM when it made the sound.

However, once again, it's not just a scratching. It's a loud crackling sound. I'll take a video of it and post it here after I'm done watching this movie.
