Short synopsis: It's a fantastical retelling of the ancient Chinese history of the Three Kingdoms. In the DW games you can choose any of a large number of various legendary warriors from any of the Three Kingdoms (Shu, Wu, and Wei), each of which has their own strengths, weaknesses, and fighting style.

The game obviously takes some liberties with the historical legends (magic, larger-than-life combat skills, etc.), but it does actually stick fairly close to the actual history, giving you various set-piece missions against huge armies of enemies that are loose recreations of actual battles from that time period.

The game is played in 3rd person view. Basically you take control of a legendary fighter, and try to plow through hordes (100s... sometimes thousands!) of weak soldier enemies and not-so-weak officers and opposing legendary warriors to try to win each battle by defeating the enemy commander.
