Yeah I feel a bit ripped off if the BD is missing extras that were on the DVD. Most of the time they are holding them back for a double dip.

These kinds of threads always get tons of posters screaming they only care about the PQ and AQ. While I agree those are important we were sold this idea that Bluray was the full package.

I agree with the earlier poster. The studio releases a bare bones release to get as much money as possible then a special edition later so they can snag some double dippers.

It's not entirely about snagging double dippers. A large number of users want the cheapest cost possible for a Blu-ray. Bare bone releases is one of the ways the studios try to meet what the public wants. I'm one of the people into high PQ and AQ. Extras are nice sometimes and for certain releases I'll pay more for them. For those I'll wait and buy the special edition.

IMO, this really is the best cost effective way to make both groups happy.

The majority of the Bluray titles missing the DVD's special features are being released with suggest prices of 29.99. The Studio's are not trying to release low price barebones titles. They just want to skimp on the manufacturing cost. As a result of this sales are low and eventually retailers reduce the price to flush out inventory. So yes eventually this does lower prices.

I have a way the studios can fix it. When they do release a special version they should allow you to purcahse the case with the bonus disc at a reduced price. Personally I feel ripped when I buy a movie and a few months later there is a better version out, but I understand everyone is different.

This would make sense if there was typically a discount for bare-bones discs (or a premium for extras). That, typically, is not the case.

All valid points here.

Recently I picked up Master and Commander on Blu Ray and it's missing a ton of features that were released on the Special Edition DVD from a few years back. I know I payed a premium for that package and I payed about 23 dollars for the Blu Ray release.

It would be nice to have a second disc full of features similar to that of the Saving Private Ryan Blu Ray release, or better yet, take advantage of BD Live and allow for some of these featurettes to be streamed through the web.

Poor BD Live...........
