I think the answer to both is no

I tend to agree.

But, if we're wrong it isn't as if this is a critical failure point for BD. 100% of PS/3 are capable of it. BD-Live will do it better.

And, how are people hooking up their HD DVD? Ethernet is not overly HT friendly. The mass market won't be wiring Cat-5.
