When do last weeks sales numbers get announced? Also, I assume with Pirates. Its should be a big blue week?

Often they are leaked on Wed. or Thurs. by Dave Vaughn on another forum.
People here will find and post them on this thread when they are unofficially, yet so far always accurately, posted by D.V. |

Maybe, but I think they are going to lock that thread before leaks 4:00 pm EST Wed. so we may not get it this week. Some people say it ruins things but if predictions are closed before he lists it I don't see a need to lock the thread and have to wait til Friday. I like getting it early you still have YTD, SI, and individual movie ratios to look forward to on Friday.

I really hope that he doesn't leak the numbers this week, I hate hearing his name... I think he does it just to get attention. The guy is a total douchebag, and a HD-DUD shill.
I'm predicting high this week, I will be optimistic and say 79:21. ![]() |

Unlike real FUDers, I dont see him going on and on and spreading misinformation and he certainly doesnt go around saying stuff like "Warner is about to go HD-DVD exclusive" or anything like that. I can tell you that he certainly recognizes that bluray can win this thing. Plus, he has always gave an honest opinion when I asked him questions. Last edited by MerrickG; 12-10-2007 at 05:01 AM. |

Were you around for the whole "Yield Rates" scenario? Where he was saying that yield rates for BD were very low, especially on the BD-50s and this was a major problem with Blu-rays. Now he is onto something about how they are not "recycleable" or some such. He always seems to have a bone to pick with Blu-ray. When he came in here, he pissed off quite a few people, and tried some stupid "s&^t" that nearly made some of out insiders leave, namely P-Man, and it's hard to respect someone after that. |

I don't really follow what he says so him saying that he believes the HD market is too small if verbatim is completely wrong and is not an opinion. 50 million HDTV owners in the US alone is not a small market. Hell that is over 4 times the size of Apple's computer market. However, current HD/BD penetration of that market is what is small and if that is what he means, then I agree. But we haven't even crossed year 2 yet and considering that we have 2 competing formats it isn't that bad. If it keeps up like this though, it won't be good for either formats and in the end, the consumer and the studios lose.

He's been basically saying that if he were a betting man, he'd be betting on Warner making a jump @ CES. Furthermore, based on his tone, I believe he thinks its going to be a jump to BD. Whether he is correct or incorrect shall be revealed shortly. |

Amen to that.
I totally understand what you are saying, Greek. I completely acknowledge that HP is the granddaddy of Q4 for both sides. However, I was also pointing out that the BDA has put a lot of steam going into this week. A BD player hit it's lowest price EVER at all major retailers, there are BOGOs at BB and other amazing HDTV + BD combos, a BOGO at Amazon that has been refreshed 3 times now, a BOGO at Frys, etc. My point with that is we should easily neutralize Bourne in the way we neutralized Transformers: through great deals. HP is a whole other monster, and although we should outsell them by at least 1.5 or 2 to 1, my only glimmer of concern is that they out move us on OOTP. We clearly always own them when it comes to older film/catalog releases, so 1-4 and the boxset should easily be a sure Blu victory. That being said, if OOTP is the number 1 selling disc of the week on Blu, above Bourne AND OOTP on Dud, I feel Warner is coming aboard. If not, I'll be disappointed. |

Then again, if Warner chose HD-DVD they'd be saying to the world we should skip this BD/HD generation and move straight to HD downloads. Last edited by JAGUAR1977; 12-10-2007 at 03:36 PM. |

Agreed!!
Why blu has many bogo's and other deals going on, these only help to impact overall sales for this week which don't get me wrong is still important. However, Bourne and OOTP are the first two MUST HAVE titles for HD that have come out in about a month so they have the extra incentive to shop this week. The bogo for me is an incentive to buy, but it dilutes the impact blu can have on a particular title. Does that make sense? Personally, I spent my money last week on Pirates. Had pirates not come out yet, I would be much more likely to spend the money this week on OOTP. Blu has just been so spoiled this holiday season with a vass amount of great titles. HD hasn't been thrown a BIG bone since Transformers, so they have more reason to buy tommorrow. |

Yea, I spent a crapload on the latest Amazon BOGO and also had my in-laws pick me up some Fox titles at Fry's that were BOGO. However, I have had Potter pre-ordered for 2 months and it shipped on Friday.
I hope the turnout is better than normal, and I've tried to encourage the PS3 Fanboys to get Harry Potter this week, even if for nothing more than to deliver a swift kick in the nuts to a M$ backed format. Last edited by cking2729; 12-10-2007 at 04:15 PM. |
