Screw blu-rays. I want a dvd atleast. Asking for a film that has never had a release will take way from the re-releases of Wes Anderson films (and soon to have a release of either Wall Street or Fear and Loathing, which already has blu-rays).

It also seems to me they answer some requests, Godard's Weekend on facebook the most recent.

I think you had a point a year or so ago but these days we're getting 5+ Criterion releases on Blu-Ray per month, including everything DVD gets. That's plenty of releases to encompass both catalog titles and new titles.

Or you can look at it like this:

We are not getting everything that DVD gets (use to get). It's dvds are getting everything blu-ray gets, as Criterion has stopped releasing the von Sternberg and Dillinger type releases since they got backlash for it in Aug. Which means Criterion has to hold back on releases that either doesn't have blu rights (the silents) or they don't want to put the money up for it (Dillinger). We'll see how this goes, but does anyone remember the Four Feathers? Yeah, what happened to that rumored dvd only release?

Having everything they release in blu now is going to screw film fans over, unless they take chances on obscure titles doing well. It will just be studio films, big name directors, deals made with other companies or re-releases of their sellers getting the "C" treatment, while releasing an Eclipse here and there.

Sounds like an unproven, improbable, but very self-fulfilling delusion, I recommend flogging it to death.

That's fine. Not talking for anybody but myself anyways. Not too hard to think they are holding back titles now they went all blu.

Maybe the demand for obscure works or sets is not strong enough to justify further financial risk right now.

So Criterion turned Hollywood in terms of safe titles and re-releases? Oh no. What shall people do without the "C"? Oh yeah, movies.

I offered up a logical hypothesis. Whether said hypothesis is apropos with Criterion right now, is another matter.

Not buying them, so yes. Good movies. One an upgrade. Thanks for going back about 2 months though.

So, you think that if CC got everything cleared for the Eisenstein Silents or The Magnificent Ambersons, but for S-DVD only, they wouldn't release due to the "unprecedented" outcry from August?

Really?

See, now your pulling out silly stuff like Mag Ambersons. Where is the dvd of the Four Feathers? Is it because they are not doing dvd only releases?

Well 1.5 months was the last time I remember you saying something positive. I even made a note of it in my planner. Then I doodled.

They are still releasing dvds, just not the ones you want. That appears to be the cruxt of the matter.

Well, that's obviously the only explanation. Plus, they won't release The Last Movie, so that proves it.

CC have never, ever had releases delayed or cancelled completely due to reasons unrelated to blu-ray rights, or maybe I'm mistaken?

Positive about anything? Get the f out of here. If you can read through the crappy Finch and the Lynch crap from yesterday, I made positive statements about a cover artist (Neil Kellerhouse) and a film (The Howl). Just because I don't wet my pants over the "surreal" of Mr. Lynch from yesterday, you couldn't see my positive posts?
