Would Polk Monitors 50's work as fronts with a center or should i buy polk monitor 70's as fronts and use the 50's as backs ?

they would be fine yes, but ur 2nd option is a better one to Future Proof ur setup for a while. if you can, most would say, go bigger when possible. ;-)

what receiver do you have?

Id say get the M70s if you have a nice powerful receiver like the Onkyo 708 or Marantz, Pioneer Elite, etc., the M70s do need more power then the typical entry level receiver to get the most Umph out of them.
