I'm sure this is a combination of the 2... because a lot of existing BD owners are likely to have these titles. Of course there are LOT of BD players out there, so maybe more of them are realizing that they HAVE one with a PS3.

Heh...I thought so. Someone else on this page posted 69:29.

It's late in the work day and I'm ready to head home.

i think thats too long into the new year. i think that they will announce it end of jan. early feb., but let the titles they announced on hd dvd come out, so they will officialy be 100% exclusive after twister, but will announce its happening earlier in the year, just to prep everybody, create less confusion, and not have people making bad investments. i do think that HD DVD has done some convincing to WB not to announce exclusivity until well after CES (like 3-4) weeks, that way WB can see any impact at all from A2s as xmas gifts and maybe revise a decision if xmas impacts anything (it won't) and for hd dvd not to have a large number of players returned after xmas, because WB just went exclusive and the writing is on the wall. plus, wb still makes royalties of hd dvds and will have another month as neutral, which probably in the short term is more benficial. so both sides win.

From another site(not saying it's 100%, wait for tomorrow):
------------------------------------
First off, it's 61:39 BD:HD.

1) Bourne Ultimatum HD
2) Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End BD
3) Harry Potter BD
4) Harry Potter HD

Bourne vs PotC 3 - 1.5 : 1
Potter BD vs Potter HD - 1.2 : 1
Planet Earth BD vs HD - 1 : 1.8 <-- Planet Earth on HD tops 100000 units. Expected to reach 100000 units on BD mid-January.

Record sales volumes on both formats

When the last few BOGOs came up, a lot of people were complaining because they had most of the titles already. There have to be new owners buying these, even if they are included in BOGOs (just one more incentive to buy it). If there were not new owners, the sales would drop. I would also like to point out that even though the HD DVD version of Planet Earth has been doing strongly in the past few weeks, hasn't anyone noticed the PE on BD has bumped up significantly too?

Once it becomes widespread public knowledge that the PE that people are buying on HD-DVD won't play in their DVD players, they will return them en masse... and having been screwed over by Red, they will all buy BD players!

I am disappointed with the HP ratio.

Here are some estimates with the ratios we know:

HP5:HP5 - 1.2:1 -- (55:45)
POTC:BU - 2:3 --- (40:60)

we also know HDDVD
BU:HP5 - 2:1

DV would have said Bourne passed 100k if it did so it must be less I am going to guess 90k so

Bourne ----- 90,000
POTC ------- 60,000
HP5 BD ----- 55,000
HP5 HDDVD - 45,000

Those are most likely the top 4 with BD losing 46:54 (115k:135k) now we have to get to 61:39. You could get that by BD having sold 100k and HDDVD 0 but if HDDVD sold 50k on the rest of those titles they would have sold 185k so BD would have had to sell 289k so the rest of the titles would have had to sell 174k so the numbers outside the top 4 would have to have a ratio of
77:23
higher if HDDVD sold less than 50k and lower if it sold more and then BD may have crossed the 300k mark (with these being the VS numbers its possible actual numbers for total sales of BD may have crossed 500k)

Given the sales of past dual format releases, I'm very surpised that they actually sold that close. You have 300 selling 2:1, other titles selling at least 1.5:1, etc. To be honest, I think there's a good chance that the figure is incorrect.

We'll see when it gets officially announced tomorrow.

Thumbs up Ok, still can't post new threads so here is my nickel

Ok, I still can't post new threads, so here is my nickel on the ramifications and meanings of this week.

I would have started a new thread, but I'll try to follow along with the responses here.

Feel free to take my logic and repost it elsewhere if you want. Hopefully, you'll agree with what I wrote. So here goes.

********

Yep logic will rule at the end of this war, not spinning false data.

It also means hd-dvd which had releases before blu-ray, has not managed to outsell since. And what many thought would be a best chance opportunity for hd-dvd to win a week and was talked up huge on multiple forums, by both sides, even to the detriment of blu supporters who thought blu might lose a week. Even with all that, it never materialized for hd-dvd.

By the way my guess was 64-36, and rumor has it as 61-39, so I was not one of them worried.

The facts just hurt the hd-dvd camp, it matters not to them the facts, bad news almost always seems to be spun in their favor at least in their sinkhole. So here, at least IMHO is how I see it.

Logic to some, maybe, denial to others, probably.

My Opinion, not facts, just opinion and thought.

1) Face it, blu-ray won the week, and has done so every week in 2007. Rumor of 61-39 blu.
SCOREBOARD
Advantage blu-ray

2) Blu-Ray's overall user base is head and shoulders above hd-dvd. Here in the USA, and worldwide.
Advantage blu-ray

3)ps3= kids, disney=kids, nuff said on that.
Advantage blu-ray

4) Warner, IMHO, after this latest fiasco of production snafu's have only themselves to blame for going both formats. And in that case, blu still outsold hd-dvd (Potter)
Advantage blu-ray

5) Rumor has it that out of the top 20 disc sales this week, blu has 14, and hd-dvd has only 6.
Advantage blu-ray

6) With regard to the Warner screwups. That message says to others who may or may not have been thinking of going neutral is this: "If warner can't produce both formats without huge errors, costing them thousands, or millions in potential profits and bad press, how can we, and more importantly, why would we put ourselves in that position to screw up?" think about that one, will you?
Advantage: Neutral on both sides unless Warner jumps to blu-ray, then they all jump, IMHO.

7) Warner says how can we prevent these screwups from happening again and costing us thousands or millions in profits and bad press. Everyone with a brain over there says the obvious, including the accountants who are judging the costs of that screwup probably right now, as I write say, Eliminate the problem by going with one format, and this will never happen again. Case Closed, and don't be naive and think that conversation has not occured. It does when we screw up at my Company, and probably does at yours too.
Advantage blu-ray Since Warner sells more on blu-ray than HD-dvd, and screw attach rates because blu has legs following initial week sales greater on blu than hd-dvd.

8) WORLD REALITY. Blu-ray in players and software outsells hugely outside the USA. You see the USA, we are not the only Market, and given a choice of ticking off the masses, there are other markets like Japan, Europe, and Australia, where blu-ray is embarrassing hd-dvd to the the extent of total humiliation. And what are the total sales Worldwide of blu-ray vs hd-dvd?
Advantage blu-ray

9) What would I do if I made the mistake of choosing hd-dvd? Sell it on ebay of course, RIGHT NOW while you still can, and while the prices are still only slightly lower than retail.

10) What will I do once blu is chosen?
Here it comes.....

Wait for it.........

I'll Possibly buy a hd-dvd player on ebay for a fire sale price of say $20, and then buy some other J6p hd-dvd catalog of movies, who is ticked he chose the wrong format, and enjoy the other movies I want and don't currently have. Until then, all blu baby.

Merry Christmas,
Joe
AKA Joe-6-pack, J6P, part of the masses
bought a PS3 to also play all my blu-ray movies in
Oh! and it's a game console too.

I think you guys are forgetting one crucial thing. Blu owners have had MUCH more to buy over the past 3 months. MUCH more. When you have 10 great titles to choose from, the numbers on one (HP) goes down. HD DVD has had what? Transformers, Bourne and HP? Blu has had... what.. about triple that in regards to must own titles. If J6P goes to BB and gets a Blu players he has to decide between MANY top notch titles. HD DVD has far fewer big name new releases. Thats not spin its just fact.

Just noticed AaronACH beat me to my point by about 8 pages. LOL. Still a good point.

And look at the release schedule from January-March.

It's not getting any better for HD-DVD.

I'm going to repeat this:

If it's as easy as having a BOGO. HAVE ONE!

Oh wait, they have. They still lost.

Now put your mind to it and figure out what exactly that means kids.
