Well that was fast. I think OSU is trying impose their own punishment in hopes the NCAA will go along with it. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA tacks on more punishment for Tressel. I can't imagine they'll be satisfied with a 2 game suspension if Tressel is admitting guilt.

Jim Tressel suspended 2 games, fined

Ohio State suspended football coach Jim Tressel for two games and fined him $250,000 for violating NCAA rules by failing to notify the school about information he received involving two players and questionable activities involving Buckeye memorabilia.

Tressel also will receive a public reprimand and must make a public apology.

"Wherever we end up, Jim Tressel is our football coach," athletic director Gene Smith said at a news conference Tuesday night. "He is our coach, and we trust him implicitly."

LOL you almost got it exactly right. Their first two games are against Akron and Toledo. Their third game of 2011 happens to be @Miami. Gee... wonder why they suspended him 2 games and not 3...

Wow what a wussy suspension by Ohio State.

I can't say I'm surprised it is Ohio State we are talking about. Hopefully the NCAA shows they have a set and gives him a more worthwhile suspension.

The NCAA better show some consistency here and suspend him for another several games. He f'ing lied to the NCAA and OSU.

A.J. Green (yes, I'm a homer) sold a jersey online, didn't lie about it, and got 4 games.

I'm really hoping they do their job on this one. If not -- if the 2 games is upheld and not exteneed -- we should riot. [Please note this is a joke. I am not trying to incite a riot, undercover federal officers viewing this site...]

Only thing lamer than Tressel not reporting this incident to begin with is his excuse. He claims he didn't report it because he didn't know who to tell about the violation. Are you kidding me? I'm sure every coach has a long list of NCAA contacts to report NCAA violations to.

for whatever reason, the NCAA is in love with Ohio St...not sure why they'd choose to love a boring, embarrassed in BCS title games program, but that appears to be the case....the joke started when they let those players play in the sugar bowl just to keep the ratings up for the game...pretty sad

What I find funny is that the NCAA investigated this scandel and handed out punishment months ago, yet they claimed to have had nothing on Tressel. It was Yahoo Sports who unraveled the Tressel story.

That just confirms that the NCAA is run by a bunch of short-bus-riding monkeys.

As much as my personal bias would love to see them not allowed to play football ever again. To think they won't even hand out the AJ Green suspension or look into what happened to USC is appalling.

For the record, I am a Buckeye fan. But I also think that they should face harsh sanctions from the NCAA. Anyone involved or knows anything about college football knows that at some point in time, ALL teams are guilty of violating NCAA rules. The only way to stop these kind of things from happening is making an example of ANY team guilty of violating NCAA rules. Unfortunately, as others have said, $$ usually influences their decisions.

Do these violations change my opinion of Ohio State? Absolutely not. I will always be a fan, but wrong is wrong. I actually feel bad for the rest of the team that wasn't involved and will be affected by the poor decisons of the few. I'm sure there will be some disappointed Seniors that will have to swallow this pill for their final season of college football.

I truly wouldn't be shocked if UGA or the new player get hit harder for 5 secondary violations relating to his announcement last month than OSU does for Tressel and his players' conduct. LOL

You're assuming that Tressel will only get the two-game suspension and the other five players get five-game suspensions. I'm assuming that the NCAA is going to impose more than that on Tressel. Who knows what they're going to hand down to them? I'm expecting a lot more than what we already know, i.e. not being bowl eligible etc. I would rather those involved be suspended for the entire season and give the rest of the team (that didn't do anything wrong) a chance at a decent season without being penalized.

Ya, this 2 game suspension won't hold. I'd be shocked if the NCAA doesn't at least double it to 4 games with even more games likely. Tressel handled this thing about as badly as possible. Even his "apology" came off extremely bad.

Yeah but really... He'll have the coaches line up a game plan just because his goofy butt won't be there doesn't mean he didn't install and get everything ready to go. I'd be happy if they lost their last bowl win (because really none of them should have been allowed near that game) and weren't bowl eligible for 1-2 years.

Even 4 games is nothing because they don't play anyone, but a still rebuilding Miami. I'd also say 6 would be good because then you lose that Nebraska game which is vip along with MSU (even though they never deliver).

Robbery, burglary and theft, Auburn pulled off the trifecta.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6206921

Quote:
Four Auburn football players have been kicked off the team after being arrested and charged with robbery, burglary and theft.

Antonio Goodwin, Kowaski Kitchens, Michael McNeil and Harrison Mosley were all arrested early Friday morning in Auburn, Ala. Auburn police said that three people entered a house and displayed a handgun and stole property. After a motor vehicle stop, the four were arrested and a pistol and stolen property were recovered, according to Auburn police.

Later Friday, Auburn coach Gene Chizik issued a statement saying all four players were thrown off the team.

"The players arrested in connection with this deeply troubling incident have been permanently dismissed from our football team," Chizik said in a statement. "While we realize the legal process will run its course and these young men have a right for their case to be heard, playing for Auburn University is an honor and a privilege. It is not a right."

Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs said in a statement: "This type of behavior will not be tolerated at Auburn. I fully support Coach Chizik's swift and decisive action to dismiss these four student-athletes from our football team effective immediately."

All four were being held in the Lee County Detention Center on $511,000 bail.

"I am extremely disappointed and embarrassed by the actions of these individuals," Chizik said in a statement. "I want to personally apologize to all of those who were impacted by this senseless act, including the victims, Auburn University and the Auburn family."
