LOTR EXCLUSIVELY ON BLU.

That would nail the coffin water-tight if Toshiba hasn't already burried it by then.

The Harry Potter movies are now 1-4 at Amazon rankings. In fact, the only time this week that they did not occupy the top 4 slots was when they were sold out and removed temporarely from the promotion.

Now what just happened to me at Best Buy directly applies here.

I was at BB about an hour ago to pick up my new plasma. Got a 42" Panasonic 1080P plasma for $990 . While at the pickup counter, a man was picking up his new Toshiba HD-DVD player with a big smile on his face. When I heard what he getting, I look at him with the big eyed surprised look ( ) and then he says to the BB employee "I want to get a second player, can you add another". I had to say something. I asked if he saw the news last night CNN, MSNBC go on-line and see the news about Warner and New Line? NO!!

I told him what had happened and he actually said "I thought Blu-ray was losing, you remember Beta don't you"? I told him about Blu sales for 2007 and what Warner news means to HD-DVD and he was shocked. He told the girl at BB to forget the second player and then said to me "I guess I'm stuck with the one I just bought". He's standing at the BB counter picking it up and thinks he's "stuck" with it.

He went out the door with his new (1) player and I bet he's going home to surf the net!

It's shocking how dishonest the media as a whole have been trying to be "fair" to HD-DUD. It's done a great disservice to consumers IMO, quite apart from how superior the Blu-ray spec has always been.

Funny you should mention this, the same thing happened to me last night. Here is a woman buying 2 Toshiba players, she had not yet gotten to checkout. I had to tell her the story and she laughed and said she knew she would end up getting the wrong one. Instead, she asked if I would help her choose 2 blu-ray players (hehe, I loved it). I told her about the 1.1 and 2.0 and all, so since her husband got a new HDMI receiver (Yamaha RXV-1800), I lead her to the Panny 30, so she bought 2 of those. It seemed strange to me that her husband would know enough (having bought the Yamaha 1800 receiver) yet not think about which hd format to buy or find out the news yesterday, it was everywhere.

I also talked with some of the salespeople, some of which were shocked at the decision. Turns out they all have been pushing blu anyway but they said some people won't budge. They plan on using the info for future sales.

Anybody else see this the Warner story on CNN last night in the news? It was 10 minutes into the newscast, so not at the end with unimportant stories.

Well trust me the BB my b/f works for is completely aware of hd dvd terminal condition. I saw an employee tell a customer that he doubt it hd dvd had 9 months yet to live.

Normally id say wow but with the recent events id say that not even accurate id say they have maybe 6 months left.

In all honesty the BB work my b/f works is very blu-oriented but when he spoke to his friend at 7pm they had not heard the news yet. So I will give employees a pass on yesterday, but as of today they should be telling customers it's a dead format!!!!

When do you think they'll start comparing market share for Blu-ray and DVD in the magazines? Then we can start guessing that!

Sweet! From this point on, as the news spreads, the wildfires of Blu will burn the dead fields of Red at an accelerated rate. I love when I run into an uninformed shopper and it will only get better on a daily basis for Blu. Go Blu!

I called my friend at BB yesterday (manager) at around 5pm and he had not heard. He said he would spread the word to his employees. I told him also to think about how much crap he would have to deal with if employees push HD-DVD and that same consumer comes back a week or two later after they find out their format of choice is a "DUD".

Well, it was a DUD even before the Warner announcement but now we are just splitting hairs.

Mmm, I love the BD vs. DVD future of this thread.

It should be just as interesting, with much higher stakes. We've defeated Saruman, but now it's time to deal with Sauron.

While I think Blu-ray has unstoppable momentum, I think it's a little premature to declare the war over. I think the BD vs. HD DVD numbers are still going to be very interesting to watch. Something wild could happen like HD DVD winning a week due to all the fire sale prices.

A separate BD vs. DVD thread would be great, but let's see BD vs. HD DVD through to the end.

(The gruesome image that comes to mind is that of poking a corpse with a stick to make sure that, yes, it's really dead.)

Who cares if they win a week now, it won't change anything. They'll sit around thinking "if only Warner was still neutral..."

Just like in December when people said "if only Paramount hadn't switched.. we'd be 85-15 by now..."
