Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Voice Cast Includes Sean Astin & Jason Biggs

Quote:
he voice cast for the upcoming reboot of the animated series on NIckelodeon has been revealed. Speaking to EW, Astin(Sam from LOTR) reveals that he will be voicing Raphael, and also gives the names of the other actors that will be lending their voices to his brothers..
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are coming back with a bang next yer. Not only is a new live action movie in the works, but Nickelodeon is airing a brand new animated series too. And EW have the skinny of who will be providing the voices for those lean green fighting machines..

Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings‘ Sam, The Goonies‘ Mikey, and Rudy‘s Rudy) will be voicing red-masked Raphael. He’ll be joined by a cast that includes Jason Biggs as Leonardo, Greg Cipes as Michelangelo, and Rob Paulsen as Donatello. The series will be executive produced by Ciro Nieli, Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, and is currently set to debut in Fall 2012, although select fans can get an exclusive first look at the reimagined Turtles at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con.

Interestingly, Paulsen voiced Raphael in the original cartoon. EW also have an interview with Astin, here are some excerpts..

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Raphael has typically been portrayed as the grumpiest Turtle. Is that still true in the new series?

SEAN ASTIN: Do you mean to say the coolest?

Well, he was explicitly “cool, but rude” in the original cartoon. Is he still rude?

He’s still working through issues. He’s really good at what he does, and he doesn’t suffer fools lightly. Sometimes that arrogance can get him in a little bit of trouble.

You’re obviously a little biased, but is he your favorite Ninja Turtle?
He’s everybody‘s favorite Ninja Turtle. Raphael’s the coolest, no question about it. Ask anybody.

Hmmm, I dunno, I know a lot of people who think Michelangelo is the coolest. He’s the party dude!

Yeah, if you like that sort of thing. [Laughs] But Raphael is Raphael, you know what I mean? Everyone tells me, “Raphael! He’s the red one with the sai?” Everybody knows the Turtles by their identifying characteristic, which I just think is hilarious.

Astin also reveals that this incarnation of the Turtles might be a little less surfer dude than previous ones..

I don’t know if it’s that far. I don’t think it’s [adopts a perfect 'Bill and Ted' impression] “Dude, how you doin’, dude!” It’s just not quite as intense. A little bit more refined. They’ve got a slightly better education, maybe. More refined chemicals.

Oh God, my son was obsessed with TMNT as a kid.

I'm still traumatized from The Secret of the Ooze and Vanilla Ice's Ninja Rap.

Just saw the trailer, linked from the SuperHero Hype website...and I'm not impressed at all. The show looks like its aimed at 5-year-olds. The animation looks like something out of a really disappointing video game, and the voices don't really work. Mikey comes off as a toddler, and the rest are just empty. I was hoping for something along the lines of the 2007 film, but what i saw instead was an abomination to the franchise's legacy.

Well it is on Nickelodeon, will watch at least one episode and then judge for myself though.

I had doubts about the show when I saw the concept art, but after seeing it in motion, I've come to like the show. I like that Shredder is actually menacing and what they're doing with Krang is pretty cool. The 80s show will always have a special place in my heart though.

I saw one episode of this and thought that it was all right, though I wish the animation would have been something from TMNT (2007) the graphics on the characters looked awesome in that movie!
