That's a trailer for the TE![/QUOTE]

The first trailer for the Triology??? appears to be quite old. The newer trailer has the tint.

Sad. Thought we might be on to something.

Still...

The iTunes Digital Copy of THE LOTR FOTR EE does not have the tint. Which, in and of itself points to an issue with the authoring of all the media surrounding the release of the FOTR EE.

So...

Therein lies the issue.

Correction, it points to an issue with that single form of the media surrounding this release of FOTR. Since the green tint appears to be on all the rest.

I am finally downloading the Windows Media Digital Copy, so I can post side-by-side screen caps of the iTunes and Windows Media Digital Copies to see the difference.

It still points to an issue, nonetheless.

Fair Enough. I actually look forward to your findings. No issue with you, I just think we need to be careful how "broad" we make some statements. By doing that we shouldn't have a recurrence of what transpired several pages ago.

We're cool .

If there is any chance that PJ did not approve of the green-tint, etc, this discussion is well-worth the effort. We all deserve the best transfer of these films IMVHO. How many of us have already bought the TE DVDs, EE DVDs, TE Blus, and EE Blus already?!?!

Many

I decided to view the iTunes digital copies on my television one more time over the weekend and I think it's pretty clear, 100%, that the iTunes digital copies are from the old DVD EE masters. To me, it's unmistakable. It's not even up for debate any longer.

As much as I really, really love the new look of the Fellowship EE, something happened during the process to remaster that film.

Honestly, I wouldn't have a single complaint at all with the new color timing, if it weren't for the subtitles. To me, that's the smoking gun. The subtitles have a green tint to them.

If they were pure white, as they use to me, I wouldn't complain one bit about the new color timing on the Fellowship EE.

Has anyone posted a screenshot with subtitles yet?

With some films like LOTR for example, I bought all the releases. TE dvds, EE dvds, EE dvd gift sets and the re-releases. I now own TE blu-rays and EE blu-rays. I have the 25" tall Sauron statue and I also have the "One Ring" display stand with the ring on his severed finger. I want to figure out a way to display all the releases with these two statues that doesn't involve merely spine them around them. Also I want to spotlight it all on one of my display shelves. Sorry, I'm getting too far off topic.

And remember -- back in the DVD LOTR EE days -- Digital Copies DID NOT EXIST! So iTunes would have had to have been given the WRONG MASTER, if the PJ Approved version happens to be the green-tint one! Or, iTunes got the RIGHT MASTER, and the Blu and Windows Media versions are somehow wrong!

I want to see if the Windows Media Digital Copy suffers from this green-tint all the way through. If it only have evidence of re-grading in some scenes, then I think we can safely say the green-tint on the Blu was somehow a mistake in authoring.

The investigation continues

No, WB went cheap and gave iTunes the DVD EE masters. The Fellowship EE digital copy is the DVD EE master. The Council of Elrond is also the smoking gun.

Having viewed both the digital copy version and the DVD version this morning, they're identical, 100%.

The only purpose of my test is to determine how the image would most likely look if the tint and contrast boost were removed without making subjective "improvements" to the result. And, like I've also said elsewhere, the correctness of my result cannot be measured against the TE version, which is simply provided for context, because the new FOTR master was completely regraded from scratch and looks quite different from previous releases even apart from the tint and contrast boost.

Here is my latest attempt at the Saruman shot with my latest filter set.

Something I think should be noted here is that the EE grading has clearly made Saruman's face brighter and more visible than the TE version as part of an intention color timing choice. You can tell this because the brightness of the light coming through the windows is reduced in the EE compared to the TE, but the highlight on the bridge of Saruman's nose is brighter than in the TE.

Thoughts?

I'm gonna try the Balrog scene now cause Flodsby requested that.
In the last one, Saruman's hair and beard are blue. That doesn't look right.

Threads in this forum with a passionate fan base like LOTR and Star Wars have been closed and re-opened. Easy to go through and moderate a closed thread to clean out all the garbage than tackling a live thread. Especially, the way these two threads grow. You can have 5 pages in 10 minutes or less.

Watched the first disc of the TT last night and was very impressed overall. Quite a difference not having a constant distracting green tint popping up. Skies, snow, hair, skin tones, fire, etc.....looked right again to my eyes without the ugly green impacting the scene and various elements. Fellowship looks a bit out of place in comparison with the constant tint and has me more convinced than ever that this was a mistake.....the TT picture just had more life and impact as if the mute had been removed.

I really want to see FOTR in all its glory without the tint!

That is what I felt too. I had posted earlier that I didn't find FOTR to be as bad as I thought with some color tweaks on my TV (which I shouldn't have really had to do anyway for a single film), but when I saw Two Towers, I knew something was amiss. I truly recommend people watch the beginning of Two Towers right after watching Fellowship.

I'm glad to see civility return to this forum.
