So it's just in reference to the one alien that was on the their ship that Ripley fought?

no. the space jockey was never seen alive. its long dead when they find it, its only in the movie briefly. the space jockey itself was a victim of the ALIEN alien. its that giant dude at the controls in the picture.

Noomi Rapace will be the lone survivor of the film, while Fassbender will be revealed as a droid and will return in the sequel.
Aliens is my all time favorite film man! I was Hicks for my 9th Halloween. But you should re-watch Alien. INCREDIBLE film. Alien 3 was good, but as a sequel to Aliens it was terrible. Alien: Resurrection was... poor.

I remember almost nothing happening in that first movie, and being very bored. I also remember Alien 3 being one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I think I'm just gonna have to watch the original damned movie again, if I intend to follow this damned thread.

I do not think it ever mentions what race the jockey is.

The theatrical Alien 3 is god awful. The assembly cut (with 43 minutes of character development) is much better. A 6/10.

And Alien is slow paced, but maybe you'll be able to appreciate it more now.

ok heres the basics:
crew of the Nostromo (Ripley and co) get a distress signal and when they investigate they discover a massive alien ship (on the planet where Aliens takes place). inside the ship they find the dead pilot (the space jockey, who has a wound in his chest indicating being a victim of a chestburster) and a chamber filled with eggs. it is never explained how they the xenomorph (the iconic Alien) eggs end up in the ship, they are a different race of alien from the space jockey.
supposedly the new movie will involve an explaination of how the space jockey ship got there and how the xenomorphs got onboard.
so in that respect it could be said that it is a prequel to Alien, but it doesnt have any human characters in common with Alien.

43 minutes? Wow, yeah that might help change my opinion. I only ever saw the original DVD release. I didn't know there was more than one cut.

It may have been 53 minutes. It was a TON of footage. Hell, Rampage (the making of) is incredible in and of itself. The story is fascinating.

The film is ok as a standalone. But I'll never forgive the killing of Hicks.

I almost ALWAYS prefer extended versions of films, and if possible I seek those out. Even a few extra minutes can make a great film a masterpiece. Such as the case with Almost Famous, granted it was an extra 40 minutes but that went from a great film to what I consider Cameron Crowe's magnum opus and my favorite film of all-time. That cut moved it ahead of the Godfather which for me was THE favorite of mine since I was 12 years old.

A lot of the issues I remember having with Alien 3 was the editing, pacing and complete lack of character development. So reading that there is a cut that might fix all of those issues does indeed make me want to seek it out. Are there extended cuts for all the movies or just new new ones? Really wish I could rent the new blu's but I have no rental store for 30 miles and have long since ended my Netflix account.

Hicks dies? Oh hey thanks for sparing me of that surprise.

Sometimes not having much of a grasp on the originals is better for the viewer. In the case of First Class I LOVED it, and had no issues with continuity like most of the people who OBSESSED endlessly in the thread about how it changed to many things that were part of the other movies. But for me as I never cared for the other movies and had almost no memory of them I was able to view First Class as a new beginning. I'm wondering if the same will be the case for this.
The problem with comic book people is they endlessly rant about continuity but forget that comic books completely change the history of characters at a whim. They just change the name of the comic to say ultimates or they toss them on a parallel earth like Crisis and then anything goes.

If u wanna see what blu-rays r meant to be like buy the Alien Anthology. It has all four movies with two versions of each one. It also has over 100 special features. Looks pretty good too.

I gets to be where I can't even post in a thread with comic fans. They obsess and go nuts and rant and rave for days, weeks, months even years after a movie has been released over the little details. It's like just shut the frakk up and enjoy the god damned movie or get the frakk out. Some of those people treat comics like their version of scripture. I've loved movies, shows and books but I don't obsess over characters or dates being wrong, you cannot change these things so why care. Yeah there were some things I wasn't too happy about with Hunger Games, but as that film is still a long ways out I cannot say much without seeing the final product. Even then I'm just happy we are getting the movie. But I'm not going to be dissecting the frakking movie while I'm watching it. Faboys are nuts and lack of p***y rots the brain.

Yes they are. They make some geeks, like me, who love comics and movies a bad name...It's NEVER going to be 100% to the comics you read and loved. Or the books. Or the shows you watched. They have to variate. That's just how it is and they have to learn that. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks some fanboys are just nuts...Scarily so sometimes.

The First Class thread has been overtaken by those fanboys screaming the exact same thing over and over and over about how they saw Xavier walking in a flashback of X3 so everything in the First Class universe is wrong wrong wrong! It's like the same three nitpicks *****ed about every day for a month now by the exact same handful of people.

Even thought we've all told them time and time again that they were trying to write Origins and Last Stand out of the series...And just like they freaked out in the Second Class thread about the possible opening scene and Star Trek for "erasing" the entire established history. Hell, even the Super 8 thread had people who were crying foul because it was just "a Spielberg rip off, not homage!"...There is no winning with them. I can't wait to hear what they say about this movie...
