Should this matter if you have a receiver that can decode Dolby® True HD and DTS-HD® Master Audio? What about updating the firmare? Some say Panasonic is charging owners a fee to have a firmware disc mailed to you. Whats up with that?

I have this player, and absolutely LOVE it. I'll probably get the BD50 (profile2.0) when it comes out. I haven't run into any issues with the BD30 so far. I highly recommend it.

However, I will ONLY recommend it IF you plan to get a receiver that can decode the bitstreamed HD audio codecs. Otherwise go for something that can decode internally.

Its a great player with one flaw:

If you choose to enable secondary audio in setup. It will disable all high def audio.

If you do PiP you cant do HD audio.

A pain in the ass if you want to change it everytime you want to watch PiP
That's because it's bitstreaming the audio until you do PiP, at which point it's doing live audio mixing. Since it can't internally decode those codecs, it can't mix it

Hypothetically BD50 will be fine

They haven't given the 50 a date yet except summerish I believe

Yeah, I agree with you, IF you have a receiver that can decode I would definitely get this player... but if not, I would try a player that decodes internally. I have two and so far have been outstanding.
