SteelBook Label (aka Stickerbook), for Scanavo, is a cost-effective alternative to their metal print standard product.

That inherently means that it is cheaper and of lower quality to the standard product.

While I would endorse the use of 'special materials' such as holographic effects, that also drives the cost up, which is counter-productive to the entire reason why a studio would consider SteelBook Label in the first place.

For example, I think a holographic cover Stickerbook is much better than a standard Stickerbook, but not as good as the standard SteelBook. I would be more critical about a purchase of a SteelBook Label irregardless of what's stuck on the covers. The fact is, if I'm getting a SteelBook Label, I might as well design my own which I'm guaranteed to like.

Ultimately, the sales of SteelBook Label will determine whether or not it is a successful product or not. As it stands now, I have no interest in SteelBook Labels -- unless they come up with a 3D Star Wars version or something like that.
Yeah, I had a problem with the "LOTR" stickerbook. It was nice with the holographic backing and patterns and stuff. When I tried to get the goo off that held the information card in place, it ripped the entire front cover off. So now I got a blank "LOTR" steelbook.

Given the choice, I'd prefer the printed metal. Even if that means paying a little more, and having less of a selection; it definitely lasts longer, and makes the product feel more special.

But if blank steelbooks are made more widely available, I wouldn't mind making my own stickerbooks.
