I've seen a lot of fair, honest posts and articles from MS personnel. Remember, at the end of the day, they just work there, and are trying to make a living. That doesn't mean they're any more comfortable with what goes on there, than any of us are about the stuff that goes on where we work.

Nothing new other than maybe it will get more people informed of the 360's flaw and M$ arrogance not to come clean and fix the problems. And they complain about Sony's arrogance and bullying ...

I don't know anybody personally who says that their XBox 360 has failed, but they are usually so damn fanatic about their systems, that they would never admit to it failing. Not to say that ALL 360 fans are this way, but I know a good number of them like that.

I didn't read the article, but I own both a PS3 and a 360. I purchased them both about the same amount of time AFTER launch (5 months, give or take). Both of which failed, been sent out, and replaced. My 360 still gives me problems with disk read errors at times, but that's not covered in the warrenty and I don't feel like paying 100 dollars to have it replaced.

I still don't own a 360 and probably never will.

I do have to laugh at this though:

Seattle and any city in Florida have the same relative humidity. lol I think he meant to pick a dry climate city like Phoenix or Las Vegas.
Heat and cooling is a basic problem here, so Phoenix would see higher percentage of failures than Anchorage.

What is not clear is if new heat sink on the GPUs can eliminate the bulk of the problem in the new gen to get the RROD numbers to decline drastically. By now, they could have hired the engineers to redesign the pcb, enclosure, fans, spun the GPU at a lower geometry to lower power and --- heat. If they're serious (and they must be), they'd be solving these basic engineering problems the way any engineering company would, but then they'd have to hire the right expertise all the way from experienced pcb designers to CE factory floor QA managers capable of identifying flaws in the flow.

This is one case where "Hot" in a console is not a compliment.

Microsoft may have been the most compelling business and technology story of the 20th century, but it also has a very colorful legacy. They have left us with two terms that will forever be part of popular culture history on technology :

Blue Screen of Death and Red Ring of Death. All we need is some Green _____ of Death to complate the trifecta!

The joke was that they were asking about humidity (not heat) and were comparing Seattle with Florida. Both have the same humidity. I think he just picked two corners on the map and figured they would be different.

As for outside temperature, Phoenix and Anchorage shouldn't be any different than Fargo and San Diego. These consoles aren't being stored and run outside, they are in temperature controlled homes all running about the same temp within a few degrees.

All that aside, the console does have heat issues and apprently those haven't been fixed yet.

Good thing I never once gave a consideration to purchasing an XBOX in any flavor.

As did most people probably.

D*MN ! IF that's true and if microsoft does indeed intends to just keep refurbishing these millions of consoles(Probably more than half of all xboxes) time and again and sending them to costumers... This is gonna end in a financial and public nightmare. People won't take patched up crippled consoles that they've to keep sending back for repairs. After some time this back and forth exchange of consoles for short-lived ones...

How many times does an Xbox 360 unit have to be sent in and repaired before they will replace it with a completely new unit?
That's not how it works. You send in a broken box, you get back a working box (hopefully). So there is a rotating stock of the original units that get repaired and returned to service. Plus, they keep finding these cashes of launch units here and there and using them too.
I mean that's horrible if true!

I'm surprised Microsoft can get away without a hardware recall. I don't use my second 360 much, the first one was replaced with another launch-period machine so if this second unit fails after my 3 year warranty is up - despite minimal use, I can't replace a machine with an inherent design fault?

You can hardly blame people for 'encouraging' the inevitable just so they get a replacement before their warranty's up.

Default Source: Microsoft knowingly launched a faulty Xbox 360

I thought this story was interesting about the xbox 360. It reports through an unofficial source that M$ pretty much just tossed its 360s on the market for sake of beating out Sony. May or may not be true, but just look at the complaints that are heard about faulty 360s and you might have to lean towards the fact that it's true.

some people may say I am going out on a limb here but I believe about 90 to 100 percent of the first line of 360s have a failure issue, 30 percent makes me laugh.....anyway I have 3/360s the first one crapped out... you guessed it first round 360....the ones bought after the apparent issues were played and played and played and still kicking also have new PS3 seems to being doing well and for some reason doesn't like to auto configure your wireless did it manually works good... the updates make PS3 a good buy not to mention Blu Ray player...though I am still awaiting a PS3 game that keeps my attention....I enjoy all my consoles and hope to get a Wii soon, 30% hahahahahahahahahahaaa...........

I do sometimes get a bit worried about my 360 (Xenon, purchased April 06'ish). I really don't use it that much anymore, though. My last 4 or 5 games have all been PS3 and I haven't bought an HDDUD since October or so...

My launch unit died 1 year after I bought it. I got a replacement that had a build date several months old. This one was actually DOA. I sent it back to them and then got a unit with a current build date. This one also lasted a year. The replacement they sent me also has a build date several months old. I am still on this unit now and play it all the time.

It sucks they have these issues but since they are taking care of them without cost to me I'm only mildly bothered by it. If I had to pay for the repairs I would be livid.

When mine died in the past I simply went to Best Buy and bought a new one. When mine returned I simply returned the old one. I'm out $350 or so for a few weeks but I need my fix.

The problem would easily be fixed with a bigger chassis.

Its just too cramped for several hot processors.
