I have mentioned this several times during this thread. At the risk of getting in trouble, I will just say it was the scene in which the Witch-King knocks Gandalf off his horse at the entrance to Minas Tirith. It is COMPLETELY contrary to the story and in variance to Tolkien's legends.

Just watch the digital copies. Right color palette and you don't have to change discs.
Granted, I'm not that big a Rings fan. Still, I'd buy the Fellowship of the Ring EE by itself if the color was corrected and if it was on one BD.... ...for now, the digital copy of Fellowship EE will do me just fine. |

I've watched the Fellowship a couple times in EE BD, and the more I watch the less and less I like it... the issue that shall not be named isn't that bad except for a few scenes but the black crush is just aweful and apparent in several scenes that I just can't do. I'll watch my EE DVD's for now, unless this ever gets fixed. |

Peter Jackson probably won't comment on the issue, if he's too busy doing other things.

I'm still on the fence about getting the blu-ray EE set even at $49.99.
A) I own the DVD EE's which means I own 50% of the same exact content on the same number of DVD discs which means I'm throwing money away. B) I love the packaging and mail-away case that came with the purchase of original DVD EE trilogy set. C) I'm not too keen on the idea of the green tint change. If I could buy the 3 EE movies individually without the bonus discs for $30 or less I think I'd buy in. Honestly though, the DVDs look pretty darn good. They need to really give me more of a compelling reason to buy these movies again on BR. Last edited by keithabbott; 11-22-2011 at 02:37 PM. |

That's very true. I intentionally listed the tint change last because I think I could likely deal with it to some degree...but seeing the changes on those youtube videos doesn't exactly appease any doubts I have.

As Gandalf the Grey (before he became even more powerful as Gandalf the White) he fought off several Ringwraiths at Weathertop, while he was drawing them away from Aragorn and the Hobbits. Gandalf the Grey also defeated and killed the Balrog in Moria. As Gandalf the White (when he replaced Saruman as the head of the wizards), he drove off several Ringwraiths who were attacking Faramir as he was retreating to Minas Tirith. Others here disagree with me, but it is absurd to think that one Ringwraith would defeat Gandalf, even if he was the chief of the Ringwraiths. In the book, the confrontation ended with no fight, because the Witch-King turned and left to fight Rohan which had just arrived. Gandalf was going to go out and fight him but had to save Faramir instead from his insane father. |

Put the Witch-King being able to defeat Gandalf in the bin of "Doesn't Make Sense" for the LOTR trilogy. It's in there with Gandalf thinking Helm's Deep is a bad idea.
So why exactly is Sauron so powerful? He's under Gandalf, especially when he gets "upgraded" after defeating the Balrog. Why doesn't Manwar just blow up all the bad guys and establish peace? Last edited by JamesKurtovich; 11-22-2011 at 03:44 PM. |

To resolve the issue, I recommend a simple test you can do that doesn't take too much time. Watch the EE Blu-ray of "Fellowship" near the beginning where Gandalf arrives to where Bilbo leaves Bag End - then watch the same sequence on the theatrical edition. If the tint or darkness of the EE doesn't bother you (or if you don't notice it at all, which I would find incredible), then you are good to go for the rest of the movie.

For this reason, I didn't get too upset that Frodo and the other Hobbits were younger than they should have been or that they set out immediately with the ring from the Shire to make it seem like a real threat as opposed to hanging around and waiting as in the book. Or that the elves show up at Helm's Deep. I'm sure these have already been mentioned, but the list of discrepancies could go on and on... |
