I only have experience with a Onkyo 605, so im not sure how much different yours is than mine (I know it has more HDMI inputs and THX i think, other than that im not sure).

Dolby EX adds an extension to the standard 5.1 channel Dolby Digital codec in the form of matrixed rear channels, creating 6.1 or 7.1 channel output. However, it is not considered a true 6.1 or 7.1 channel codec because it lacks the capability to support a discrete 6th channel. So thats not a real help to what understanding your root issue because the receiver isnt recreating 7 distinct channels of audio when performing Dolby EX.

Have you tried the test tones to verify that your BD30 is indeed sending a signal to all 7 speakers?
ok i think im giving up. i did the test tones through the panny all seven speakers working. my receiver reads 7.1 pcm . all setting are done right. played a dts-ma 7.1 movie and everthing works good. the only thing i can think of is the movie i was watching (good luck chuck) little to no sound effects in the rear 2 speakers
