Would also be nice to see the US breakdown on these figures.

The yearly number in the US was 1.8:1 in favor of Xbox 360.

I imagine that this will be at the very least closer in the coming year.

it doesnt surprise me that the ps3 outsold the 360 everywhere but the USA. some reason we seem to think that 30% failure rate is acceptable

Kinda makes sense. After all the PS3 is the only way to get a Blu-Ray player that will be compatible with the entire disc.

Although it would be interesting to see software sales for both. A lot of PS3 owners own it primarily for Blu-Ray movies and have no games. Having played both the PS3 and the XBox 360 I can vouch for the gaming superiority of the XBox 360, the PS3 can't touch it.

Although this year looks better for the PS3, maybe I will actually have a reason to buy a PS3 game... (MGS4)

Why you gotta say that?

I'm a PS3 owner, and I buy a crap load of games. I also know of many other PS3 owner who buy games as well. Those including members here, they buy games when they can just as much as Blu-ray movies.

The crapbox 360 is sh*t in my opinion, they got 80% computer games, 10% multi-platform games, and 10% exclusive games. Even worse, they don't got any BIG line-up coming this year either.

Oh yeah I forgot, they also got 35% failure rate.

PS3 all the way!

You are welcome to your opinion, but this opinion is not universally held.

The only game in the last year exclusive to the 360 which impressed me enough to buy was Mass Effect.

Let me guess, you are one of the people who claim all cross-platformers as if they were 360 exclusive?

Actually, look at his username.

It's all about the type of game they like. And in this case, it's the one with a Jolly Rancher flavored Mt Dew drink.

Both metacritic and sales are both heavily in the 360's favor, that's about as objective as you can get with these things.

Well the problem there is how to judge the platform and not just the titles?

Of course, the proper response to that is, what's the point of comparing the platform, we're playing the titles .

There are a few taste differences between the platforms, and the percieved value of Live is probably the largest dividing point between those two opinions.

I don't know about Metacritic, but if you look at gamerankings Burnout is scored higher on the 360 compared to the PS3 version, I ask you, why? The only real thing it has over the PS3 version is custom soundtrack, whereas the PS3 version has better textures, better framerate and online for everybody (You can't play Burnout online on the 360 if you own an Arcade or Core).

Also you do know about these gamesites taking bribes to up their score right? That was a big thing that people were talking about a couple of months back.

Hardly.

Of course they have more sales, they have more consoles out there. Duh.

As to metacritic...You can not tell me with a straight face that Oblivion is better on the 360 than on PS3. Yet it has a higher metacritic score.

Rock Band is identical on both, with an exception which is not really Harmonix's fault, and yet again it has a higher metacritic score.

Burnout Paradise has an identical score and as stated above you can't even play multiplayer on all versions of it for 360. How can someone claim that they are equal given that?

Metacritic isn't bad. It's just that you can not look at numbers cross-platform and come up with a real comparison, at least until all reviewers review both versions, which will never happen.

The biggest problem with Metacritic is that right now a bunch of notables only review the 360 version of a cross platform game. Less scores means that those sites which review strictly (and thus give 70s to good games, as opposed to terrible ones) are weighed more heavily. Like if you have 100 100 100 100 100 70 for the 360, and 100 100 100 100 70 for the PS3, the metacritic score for the PS3(94) is worse than the 360(95) just because they have less reviewers.

This statement only holds true if you're a big fan of the First Person Shooter genre, and that's it. The last good game I played on my 360 was Dead Rising, since then it's just been sitting on my shelf.

That being said, I can vouch for the fact that there is nothing superior about gaming on the Xbox.

The "XBox 360's gaming superiority" is in the eye of the beholder. If you are a fan of the FPS genre, sure the XBox has superior games. But most PS3 owners, including myself, bought the console for the traditional PlayStation titles. MMOs, RPGs, Gran Turismos and Metal Gears pretty much define gaming for a lot of people. So to call the XBox or the PS3 a "superior" gaming console is entirely subjective upon your personal taste.

Sounds like your ps3 spends most of its time folding and playing blu rays then!

yo i like your sig, that sh#@t couldint be more true if you held a bible in your hand. if it wasint for the ps3 and sony touting HD games and HDTVS and blu-ray I WOULD NOT.. I REPEAT I WOULD NOT have anything to do with blu-ray,HDTVS, HD surround, getting the best sound system and learning about sound systems, and all that other stuff. and because of blu-ray it has lead me to getting the system in my sig, its like a chain reaction went off when i got my ps3. and just like the ps2 if it werent for it, i would not be into dvds ether, i never got a standalone dvd player i never had to i had my ps2, now the same thing with ps3 i have over 18 blu-ray movie's now, and i have yet to buy a standalone, i would be sloooowly(if at all) adopting all this HD stuff if it werent for sony. i also think ps3 and HDTVS go together like bread and butter, everybody who buys a ps3 has got a hdtv or has it on their mind. the link between to two is there, you cant say the same for xbox360....i didnt mean to go off topic but your sig spark a fu@#ing flame in me and it had to be adressed.......thank you sony for leading me into the HD world... to all the ps3 owners who can relate..........group hug
