Lg 60pa6500

Anyone know anything about this new LG? Its supposedly got most of the features of their more expensive 2012 models when it comes to the display but no internet or 3D. if thats the case and its truly an improvement over the PZ950 I may have to buy it for $1350

from the looks of things the blacks are really close to some of the best and I'm sure it can't be that visible to the human eye. and thats last years model.

Wingman is correct, the black(gray) levels on the LG's of this year at least, are pretty terrible. And they would be quite noticeable to the average consumer comparing them to a Panasonic or Samsung plasma. Also, LG's are known to have more than noticeable image retention issues.

On the live streaming of the 2011 HDTV shoot-out, the top model LG was on the wall next to the rest of the flagship TV's and the LG performed embarrassingly bad. It had awful image retention and the black levels were horrendous. Everyone in the chat in the live-stream were commenting on why the LG TV even made an appearance.


On a side note: How television info measured the Z950 with a .004 MLL (black level) is beyond me. They need a new meter, because .04 is actually about what the VT30 is. The D8000 Samsungs are measured at .006-.009. If I remember correctly, the LG was measured during the shoot-out to having .026-.030, which is worse than some LCD displays.

That is really bad because LG have a lot of picture options (which is a calibrators dream) but the bad black levels really negate that feature.

i think you mean .26 or .3 and not .026 being worse than some displays.can anyone point out another site with good numbers like televisioninfo.com

My buddy just got a 60" LG from costco a week or two ago and i am unsure of the model number, didn't want to look as he would ask why and i would have to tell him of issues he probably won't notice anyways, but i do....

Problem 1: I threw in The Dark Knight blu-ray tonight for him as its a pretty easy sell in my home as to how good blu-ray can look. What drove me crazy was outside in the light scenes the screen almost appeared to flash like a strobe light.... Almost like energy saver/light detection etc... only kind of fast, it was very obvious to me. The screen appeared to "flicker" but i am not sure if thats the correct term for the issue but describes what i saw, it flashed quickly.

Problem 2: I chalked this up to netflix compression at first since i had not watched a blu-ray at his house, but the screen seems to get NOISE. Not sure if that is the proper artifact title, but it speckles at time, and not like grain, but not quite like hardcore digital noise either. Its not always present from what little i have seen but it pops out at me on solid colors on both blu-ray and netflix.

Now i know LG is far from top of the line and i would assume this set at the $1000 price point is not their flagship. Just wondered if anyone could lend some advice on settings, knowledge etc.... That might either explain these issues to me or hopefully alleviate them.

Actually, their flagship sets (the PZ950) is pretty affordable. With that said, there's a reason why they are. I would recommend the guy just return that set back to Costco and go with Panasonic (the ST30 is very affordable).

That was attempted before he bought the lg, i tried to steer him towards the pannys and samsungs but he "preferred" the LG, this is the type of guy that shows off his tv now by noting its 600hz because he of course thanks to marketing thinks thats like 120-240 on lcd.

Its a done deal and i just want to make sure its not a defective set or that there are settings on that are causing this. I was just lucky i was there when he opened the thing or his cousin who actually said this was the first year plasmas can last more then 2 years would have had him cranking sharpness, brightness, and contrast straight to the roof.

Yeah but he doesn't have to, its my hobby and just a tv to him, and i would like to help my buddy out if i can, just can't seem to find any definitive answers on the net in regards to the problems i have seen and what if anything i can do to alleviate or minimize them.
