You'd think with the Studios supposedly hemorrhaging money, and with Blu ray increasing in popularity that the studios would be digging into the vault and releasing sure fire sellers. Heck even a short term deal with Criterion would gauge interest and get them a nice licencing fee.
Get off the pot dammit
Why would they? Don't you know that streaming services and cloud crap is where it's all going? They can charge you money for stuff you don't even own, that they can destroy and take from you at any time! They can't do that with physical discs.

The Ambien is kicking in. I'm going to go drift off wondering how Jack Warden never showed up on either The Rockford Files or Columbo.

That doesn't seem right.

yes i know. However, streaming can't touch this:

I love this machine.
I don't support streaming, never will.

I was being snarky. I technically have 4 BD players: The expensive Panasonic, the cheapass Seiki, the LG burninator in my desktop, and the BD reader that's in my Day-glo orange Vaio. I stream/torrent
[Show spoiler]mainly torrents
a lot of stuff, but I prefer to buy it if I like it, as it's much nicer PQ wise, and there are those bonus features. Streaming is ok, but people shouldn't depend on it.

No it doesn't. It seems very, very, very wrong.

My issue with streaming isn't so much the crap quality, as I will watch stuff I love, regardless of the quality if I can't get it any better. It's the whole, pay money for a file that depends on your internet connection, and whether or not the people you pay it for will let you watch it again after paying for it. Cloud/streaming services are great for an alternative storage place, but again, they should not be one's primary means for media consumption.

Ryan over at Criterion Cast is discussing some films we might see released in the second half of 2012:

I just saw that Alambrista is on backorder at Criterion.com. I had no idea it was so popular.

The Apu Trilogy and/or Kieslowski's Dekalog would make my year.

Kinda strange no hints have been given out by Criterion at all. Makes me more anticipated. My only prediction is L'avventura cause they kept posting about it on Facebook. For me this would probably be the biggest announcement of the year so far.

I wish I could find a way to see it b4 it is released. I have a feeling I will like it (I love El Norte) but am not much for buying films I haven't seen.

I think it's a good thing, as people are less likely to be upset about stuff, because most people have been claiming that the clues give too much.

Is it you or Spidey who doesn't have one? Who ever it is, you need to invest in one. How else are you going to be able to watch The Innocents on BD? It's a popular title over in the UK, because Amazon had to delay my order due to low stock, but it arrived here in less than a week, which is more than I can say about my Deep Discount order.

I'm really impressed with the cheapass Seiki I bought at Wally-World. The PQ's only slightly softer than my Panasonic, and it plays just about everything I throw at it, including scratched up DVDs that are troublesome in my old LG region free DVD player, and won't even play in my Panasonic BD player, with no issues.
Spidey doesn't have a region free player currently...CCFixx and I both own the Momitsu 799 and are quite happy with it. It has played everything I've thrown at it and PQ is great! It also does flawless PAL to NTSC conversion...

The cheap Seiki's great at PAL to NTSC as well. I'm actually a bit pissed off that this cheap Chinese player works better than the name-brand player I paid double the price for. My Panasonic can't play avi and other video files, PAL, or anything off of an external drive. The Seiki does all that. I like my Panasonic, as it's easier for me to have a dedicated player for Region A, and one for B, rather than swap regions all the time.

One hint is fine, three or more is just overkill.

That's what I do as well...that also takes the strain off of my Momitsu, as it only gets used for region B blus and region 2 DVDs. I've got a Panny DMP BT 300 for region A and streaming NetFlix...
