I'm glad to see people are seeing "Hugo" for what it is....possibly the finest example of how to do 3D yet (won't pay for Avatar yet so I can't compare them).

Interesting about Harry Potter...not done quite right, but in my HT, it's definitely not too dark to see the scenes. Don't know if the made some sort of change in the DVD or whether my PJ does a really good job. It's pretty bright.
Yeah I don't own the 3d verson of DH pt 2. So I am just going by what I saw in the theater. It is probably better on a Hi-Def TV.

Thanks everyone for your advice! I decided I am going to watch the 3d version tommorow.

You may THINK it's going a little too far. But, that is exactly what Scott & company intended for the whole premise of the story. Then they chickened out and pulled way back on the reigns to keep YOUR type of reaction from affecting the religious reviewers from tearing it a new hole. Like it or not, Scott is making that statement in the film. According to the film
[Show spoiler]Jesus was an alien from another planet.
It's actually a theory that has been around for a very long time. It's just always been too taboo for Hollywood to touch. Now, there was a perfect vessel to explore the theory and they wimped out. THAT is why I have lost some respect for Scott.

Seriously, good sci-fi doesn't hold its punches. In fact, even if they had been aggressive with the Jesus parallel and made it more obvious, people with religious passions would at least be able to respect the decision made despite not respecting the ideas presented.

My socks wouldn't have had far to go because I was in the 3rd row with my feet on the second row seat while looking at a 6 story high 3D IMAX screen (waaaaaahooooo!!!!). Everything behind me was "completely" sold out at a Friday opening 10:45 am show. Of course, $12 was a GREAT deal.

Heck! I can do better.

Look at how many people STILL believe that L. H. Oswald did not act alone.

Thank you VERY much Oliver Stone!

Anywho...if they do go ahead with the sequels, I wonder if they might try to go the route of filming both together so as to save in production costs.

On that subject about the crucifiction plot angle...

I think that it might have been interesting if they had filmed it with having Shaw's cross given back to her right before they enter the ship, and then they showed the Engineer glancing at it right before David speaks to it and then afterward it still goes berserk.

Who knows, maybe they did but then reedited it due to fear of the audience grossly misunderstanding the scene's meaning. Man! That really would have been very powerful if they had done that. *sigh*

Did you read my full post?

There are many hints throughout the films associating the characters of the film with different religious figures. And, as I said earlier, Ridley Scott always had the intention to make that statement. It was the reason why
[Show spoiler]the alien race wanted to use their biochemical weapon against Earth's population. According to Ridley Scott, the motivation for annihilating us as a race was because we "crucified one of their emissaries."
That sounds pretty cut and dry to me that the association was intended.

And, as I've also stated, I lost respect for Scott in pulling such an intriguing punch in order to try and avoid the controversy that surrounds such a claim... even though it would have been made within the realm of a beyond obvious fictional sci-fi story medium.

Ya. Exactly! Something as simple as a quick insert like that could have resolved so much of what I found the film was lacking... some type of gravitas that was hinted at but never fully realized for thought provocation. Instead, it was left so that the audience would only understand the nature of the film if they happen to come across Ridley's interview on the subject. Otherwise, the speculation is among viewers is just a bunch of blah, blah, blah, blah, blah without anything of real substance to back it up.

Until I read Petra's latter post (quoted below), I would say that you were reading maybe just a little too much into it. Of course I noticed the religious references in the film, but I never thought of that as a possiblity.

Yes, I did read your entire post. To be honest with you, this was the first time I had heard of all this, and it's come as a bit of surprise. Of course I noticed a good number of the religious symbols in the movie, but this deliberate idea that we
[Show spoiler]"crucified one of their (blue engineer) emissaries"
sounds so ridiculous, even within the xenomorph universe. I, for one, am glad that he pulled back, because that angle is so preposterous it's almost laughable.

If she took enough painkillers to dull the pain enough for her to run and move the way she did, she WOULDN"T have been able to run and move as she did. She'd be out like a light! Her cut was too deep and large for her to even move outta the way of the squid the way she did! Her mini moments of pain were not the amount of pain you'd be in after a surgery like that.
Not trying to argue or "troll", only pointing out that what she went through after something like that wasn't realistic in any way, shape or form. (Yes, I realize that I'm talking about a science FICTION movie and complaing about "realism".) I liked the movie. Quite alot. That part of it, though, just bothered the crap outta me because, as I typed:
[Show spoiler]I've had surgeries with smaller cuts than that, and could in no way squirm, run or jump afterwards. Not without holding my gut and collapsing the moment I got outta bed. Every step feels as though your guts are gonna spill out all over the floor! And I was plenty doped up on painkillers, too!
That part of the movie was just a little hard for me to swallow since I'd gone through something like it, but less severe.

Clearly you don't know what you're talking about. She was using ultra special cinema-grade painkillers. It all makes perfect sense.

Interesting...

Yea, I do remember back about 17 years ago when I had an appendectomy, my tummy muscles hurt like ***** for quite some time.

Which then makes me believe that what you just brought up, might just be the main reason that Ridley did a heavy reedit of the vehicle bay scuffle that was a bit later in the movie. From the earlier trailers, Shaw appeared to have some action in it. Though the only real part we saw was that of her backing up over berserk boy. But I can just imagine that ferocious pain of getting up into that rover's driver's seat. *Ouch!*

Just a theory.

.

While that might well be the case, she's still later shown running and jumping around. Still, I'm not too sensitive about stuff like this. It's certainly not the first movie to exaggerate someone's physical ability after injury/surgery.

I'm kind of hoping, though, that the scene you talked about was re-edited as a way to cut down on the length of the film (by inter-cutting it with other stuff, they were surely able to cut a lot of it out), so that there might be a chance of seeing the original version in the extended cut (if there is one). In any case, I'm sure the original version will be part of the deleted scenes section of the blu-ray at the very least.

I believe the movie is about 200 years in the future, so suspension of disbelief should be easy in a movie set that far ahead of our time.
