HD DVD actually had a 'rise'? I thought they simply woke up, sat up in bed, blinked twice, went back to sleep.

Not refering specifically to this article, but a lot of delusional red ants like to glorify HD DVD as it was this perfect format and brilliant business model that launched and came so very, very close to getting Fox and Warner, but only to lose them to Sony at the last minute.

The more I think about it the more certain I am that Fox was just fishing with Toshiba, and never had any intention:
- Fox is the one non-hardware studio that is a member of the BRDA
- Fox is gung ho for region coding
- Fox is gung ho for highest possible level of protection

Warner I can't understand why they were even considering it given their own internal sales (more BD than HDDVD) plus the overall sales US and worldwide.

I think the IGN article is actually quite good though. A good read.

"The PlayStation 3, however, is the only Blu-ray hardware we recommend purchasing, as in addition to its gaming abilities, it is the only currently available Blu-ray player that will be able to support every feature of the finalized Blu-ray hardware profile."

The one thing that everyone said would have no part in how the HD war would go is now the item being touted the best player on the market, coincidence? I think not!

My sentiments exactly. Like that line from Tootie: "Were you ever famous? Then how can you be a hasbeen?"

He isn't really arguing for HD-DVD. He is just pointing out the status of the two formats specs.

They kind of did. It happened from the time period when they launched and lasted through BD's botched launch right up to the second the PS3 was launched and the REAL BD launch had occurred at that time. It was downhill from that moment forth.

Reading through the article, there seemed to me to be a definite slant. It was almost like an obituary for a jack ass... he's dead, so you only say nice things about them....

Even though HD-DVD is dead... it kind of flies in the face of journalistic integrity to put lipstick on that pig.

And F her in the A real good just like Blu-Ray did to HD DUD

P.S. Just in case you are wondering... the "F" stands for "fondle" and the "A" stands for "arboretum"... just to make sure no one is accusing me of profanity

Their rise was when they first launched. Then BD came out and it was a steady drop from there.

Didn't see JTK's post... sorry
