I have been buying so many blu-rays lately and I still have many that I haven't even watched yet. So I can wait for movies to go down in price.
I don't buy new releases anymore unless it has an exclusive extras. (plan to get Avengers & Hunger Games at Target for extra disc on release day) I will wait until I can get it for around $10 even if it's the movie I love (reason I didn't pick up "Drive" and Fincher's "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" yet.) And around $30 for those big limited edition boxes.(waiting for Singin' in the Rain to hit that price) For $5, I am willing to just about buy any movies with good reviews even if I didn't see it. Only time I will not buy it at this price is if it's only mediocre movie without any extras or if I have seen it and hated it. Then I will not even pay $1 for it. |

No kidding. For me at least, it will be harder to justify an asking price of $29.99+ for new releases in Steelbook packaging when a slew of WB catalog titles were available at Best Buy for $9.99 each (on sale).

Same rules as any price really.
Has to be something I've seen and that I think I'll rewatch at least once every handful of years. Bought way too many DVDs back in the day that I ended up never watching since I only watch a couple movies a week and generally spend that time watching something for the first time from Netflix. So I'm a lot more selective in what I buy these days as a big film library is just clutter than seldom gets touched for me. And I still haven't been as selective as I should on Blus as I have some I've had for 2 or 3 years without having watched since buying them. What I try to do now is only buy something if I want to watch it that week. Otherwise it will probably always be cheaper later, and if not I can always netflix if I get an itch to watch it and the current price at the time is too high. I wont just go out and buy a bluray cuz its 5. I only buy blurays that I know are gonna have a high replay factor in my home, I dont care if they are 5.
The only real rule I have is that I usually try to stay under 15 for any bluray, I dont care if its steelbook, digibook or anything else for that matter. Now I do bend the rules sometimes if its gonna be some store exclusive. I will def be bending the rules if the Best buy exclusive of E.T. is a digibook. |

I'll buy any interresting movie for $5.
Yesterday, I bought the "House of 1000 corpses/Devil's Rejects" Combo for $10 ($5 each movie) and I never saw the movies, but I know I'll find them interresting. Even some bad movies! i bought "Cursed" a year ago at $5, and I don't like the movie storyline very well, but I do like werewolf movies and Christina Ricci, so the $5 was just the right cost for me. |

My rules are simple:
Basic Blu-ray Title: If it is a movie that I have seen a once maybe twice that I enjoyed a lot and I know that I will watch more than one time I will spend $10 or less on it. Movie Boxsets: If the franchise is a one that I am a fan of and that I enjoyed than I will spend $30 or less on it. (unless it is a rare and out of print and I can find it for a reasonable price than I will buy it.) |

I don't buy too many at a time.
If I love the movie, it's likely that I'll buy it. If it received exceptional reviews from critics, and I haven't seen it, I might buy it. If it's on Netflix, YouTube, or recorded on my DVR, I won't buy it unless it has amazing special features (in terms of quality and quantity). The same stuff applies to DVDs. Rule: if a $5 Blu-ray costs $6, I don't buy it.
Seriously though, if you don't want the movie, why buy it whether it's $50 or $5. If you do want the movie, and it's $5, is this a huge risk? Your lunch probably cost more than that. How many rules does everyone have for buying a $5 value meal at Wendy's? |

Considering the cheapest I can see a movie around here is for $4.50 at the theater, I consider a $5 blu-ray a safe purchase. or at least if I hate it/dislike, I won't feel guilty as I could just as easily hate a movie at the theater.
$22.99 is the max I ever pay for a combo new release (for films I must have on first day) Most single disc blus I don't like paying over 17.99 and many times I will wait until 14.99 or less unless it is something I really want. No single disc I will ever pay over 19.99 |

There is one AMC theater that only charges $5 for matinee showing, but this theater is like a KMART that hasn't been updated since the 70's. Really crappy quality. I saw Batman there and the speakers were all blown out, there was a ceiling fan making audible noises during any "quieter" scenes, and even the image on the screen appeared slightly "damaged" at times (like they had some ancient broken down 35mm projection system rather than digital, if that's even still possible with a picture like Batman). I made the mistake of using rewards points to get a couple AMC gift cards, so I'll have to visit this dumpy theater at least 3 or 4 more times unless I just blow it all on candy and popcorn or just buy tickets for other people. ![]() Quote:
I don't even look at new releases that are $20. That actually is a rule I have. No overpriced new releases. I prefer to rent brand new releases and stick to buying catalogue. Lately there have been lots of catalogue releases that have movie cash, which works out even better. |

No rules per se. At $5 if i think its a movie i will watch at least 1 more time, or if its a blind buy that im interested in checking out then ill buy it. I dont usually do blind buys, but at $5 hard to argue against it if its something i'm remotely interested in seeing.

Depends, if I wanted to see it and so I would, because then if I rented it, then I'd be out on that money. I recently purchased 28 Weeks Later and honestly didn't care for it, I haven't seen the first one, so I don't if that would do anything, but if the price is good, then I will jump in on it.
