It was fun for a few times, but now they're devaluing every rare/expensive steelbook. That makes collecting steelbooks less fun and/or attractive.

There won't be any rare steelbooks if they keep doing this, every country is releasing the same steelbooks now.
I kind of agree with you on the rare aspect but disagree at the same time. Importing to the UK isn't fun. I hate customs fee and all that shizz. HM Revenue and Customs should just do one.

Thank god I lost the one I was bidding on on eBay. If I bought it and saw this, I would've been PISSED. Now I can get a wallet friendly one

let me guess, you own the zombieland german steelbook?

to some extent i agree with what you are saying, personally if i owned futureshop iron man or zombieland german steelbook and i paid big money and now play.com release them for dirt cheap, i would be pissed off as well and you are right in what you are saying. if you do buy a rare steelbook these days there is a huge chance now that someone will release it like play.com who are just raping every possible release they can.

on the other hand, people who missed out on the german steelbook which goes for like 90euro+ on ebay, this is an amazing deal and lots of people will be happy.

I agree that the constant re-release of steelbooks or ones that are considered rare does make collecting less fun. However, I think you will still have a large group of collectors who want the original release over the new one.

For example, I am sure there are a ton of people who would rather have the FutureShop Iron Man or Amazon.de John Rambo vs the Play.com Iron Man and Media Market John Rambo.

I initially collected anything and everything but as time has gone on (today for example) I am trying to get rid of a good porotion of my steelbooks because I rather have ones I enjoy rather than just saying I have them in my collection.

I for one would like to get all the "Dark Knight" steelbooks, metal slip cases, etc. because I love the movie not because they are rare. I had no idea the Amazon.jp BB and TDK would be rare, I just wanted to have them in my Batman collection.

Anyways, that is just my two cents.

Cheers!!

I know what you're saying, and agree with you slightly, but you have to admit that it's great news for those who can't afford the rare versions of these titles - I mean, there are lots of people on this forum (and in the world) who enjoy collecting steels but can't afford the ridiculous prices that the rare ones go for. When Play release ones like this (amongst all their other crap) it's superb for those who love the film and enjoy steels...and I'm not convinced that the rare ones will depreciate in value, either - they're rare because of the limited numbers they were printed in, not because there was nothing else that people could buy. This being on the scene is just a back-up for those who can't afford it.

Thor 3D super set was extremely pushing it as it is but i knew that was a special release.

If play.com has access to releasing almost every movie in a steelbook that is a good thing. But copying existing steelbooks artwork (except for Japan because their steelbooks are costly from the word go!). I have to disagree with.

When something sells out, it sells out. If you want an alternative artwork fair enough. Even I have multiples of the same films because I like the different artworks. For Collectors, don't piss them off. Because I am one of them and I hate being pissed off.

The Zombieland steel from Germany was a class act. Those who own should still feel priveleged even after this play.com version comes out.

Yeah, comfort those in need and let's all sing them a lullaby

Just hold your German Zombieland steelbook real close and sing:
"...You're beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can't bring you down..."

Or my personal favorite:
"Soft kitty,
Warm kitty,
Little ball of fur.
Happy kitty,
Sleepy kitty,
Purr, purr, purr."

ps. I'm just trollin' guys :P

The only way a play zombieland would affect the german zombieland will be if it has the same artwork which I honestly doubt it will, anyone find a play steelbook using the same artwork as a steelbook released in Germany first?

If I remember correctly Amazon.de had the same Transformers steelbook cover a while ago...
But I don't really know for sure.

EDIT:
I only found the DVD steelbook, looks the same, but I don't know what the back looks like.

War Of The Worlds shares a lot of similarities:

From my searching their is no evidence to suggest that anyone will sell the same steelbook as one released in Germany first, personally I wouldn't mind if they did do the same one even though I have the German one as I bought it because its my favourite steelbook and a great film.

the war of the worlds one carries a German title name unlike zombieland.

Can't argue with that, zombieland has a fantastic looking steelbook and is great film indeed!

That's what I meant by a lot of similarities, 'cause of the title and the German has a banner.
And yeah, Zombieland is also Zombieland in German.. so that explains that :P

Not really true, look at what Play's IM steelbook did to the FS value.

If a collector wants to collect limited editions of say the German "Psycho", then a UK company such as Play brings out the UK version.....there will be German buyers and UK buyers who do not require "foreign text"...that is why they have country specific releases.

Now if a UK collector is happy to have a German import - that is all well and good, but do not begrudge other UK collector's the chance to own the UK version when it is released.

I don't own the German Zombieland steelbook.

As long as the artwork is different I'm okay with this release.

We will see what you bargain hunters say in 2 years time when your Hunger Games HMV exclusive goes for £200 on ebay and play.com releases another one just like it.

There will be late adopters saying "ooh, now I can get it for £10 instead of that ridiculous £200".

What goes around comes around.
