Default Buy Imports or wait?

I see "The Island" is available in Europe for a very healthy price, about $60.00. Is i t a given that it will be available in US for less? I hate to wait any amount of time for Scalett Johansen in Blu. I understand Japan has certain titles we yanks are waiting for as well. I hate to pay too much and then have it come out for half as much next week.

Patience is always the best option.

The saying of, "Good things come to those who wait" is quite valid.

I think if you find it for a good price get it. I got Almost Famous for around 27 dollars from the U.K., who knows when it will be released here.

Around $36.00 U.S. here, probably $40.00 shipped.

Get the import because no one has any idea when Universal will release a BD version in the U.S.

With the lack of titles that are available in the US (titles that I would own) I have no problem buying imports. I have no complaints with any of the ones I own now.

I'm waiting.

It also helps that there's few imports that interest me.

I have the UK pressing. Got it during a Buy 2 Get 1 free sale at Amazon UK. The PQ is superb. The audio is standard 5.1 Dolby. Still, this is a personal favorite film so it is definitely a great BD to own. If a US version ever comes with improved sound options I will upgrade.

"You want to go to the Island..."

Yes, I do indeed!

My Family live in the UK so I've got them on the lookout for Almost Famous and The Island. Hopefully I'll be receiving a parcel anytime now.

I agree, although, given the fact that it's a Michael Bay movie, he may make a push to get it done. But like Clark said, no one has any idea. I say, if you can find it on eBay, go for it. I have it and it is worth it.

I'm finally giving in and importing Transformers 86 and Days of Glory: Indigenes. It'll run me $70 - but I just have to have these movies.

$28.12 with shipping, not that bad for an import.

I live in the UK but import most of my films or games from the US, just got No country for old men & its still at the cinemas in the UK. Not only do i get stuff quicker its also usually cheaper.

I buy both, but I tend to import. The reason being that I get the movie a lot quicker. Some times 3-4 months before it has a UK release. Another good reason is the price, the UK prices can be abit too high sometimes. Lucky we have a few good online retailers that sell at good prices, and this can sometimes work out cheaper than importing. To me its a balance of how quick I want the movie and the price I am willing to pay. If the online UK retailer are cheaper I wait, if not I import.

I import titles from the UK that have received generally good feedback and reviews from other members. The only purchases I have made are titles not likely to get a US release any time soon. My import list (all region-free):

Almost Famous
Bruce Almighty
Children of Men (Finland)
Cinderella Man
Company of Wolves
Face-Off
The Island
Lucky Number Slevin
Robbie Williams: Live at the Albert
Scary Movie 4
U-571
Welcome to the Jungle (original title) aka The Rundown (Here in the US)

Each of these titles look incredible on Blu-ray with the exception of "Company of Wolves." Unfortunately the image is extremely grainy and flat. However, it is still the best version of the film I have seen on any format. I also highly recommend ordering from Sendit.com. Fair prices, terrific service, courteous staff.

importing in the way forward I dont see a point in waiting if you can get it now and for a fair price (which it seems you can by the previous posts).

Very good estimate. I just purchased this movie from Amazon UK. The price including shipping (in Euros) 18.38, and the actual price charged to my credit card was $36.53. A little pricy, but not too bad. I really want to see this movie again, and the DVD just will not do.
