The Avengers: Infinity War

CH]

Quote:
Details on New HULK Movie after AVENGERS 2, Plus Possible Hulk-Centric Plot for AVENGERS 3

Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk in last year’s The Avengers was certainly a highlight of the superhero assembly movie, but fans were left wondering what Marvel’s plans are for the green meanie going forward. We already know that sequels to Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers are slated for release over the next two years (Marvel’s Phase Two) as well as new properties Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange and Ant-Man. So where’s the Banner love? We’ve previously reported that Marvel’s Kevin Feige has stated that no new Hulk standalone movie will take place until after The Avengers 2 has opened and that popular comic arcs Planet Hulk and World War Hulk are not off the table. Now, some intrepid reporting from a reliable source has shed some possible details on the future of the Gamma Giant. Hit the jump for more, but consider this your spoiler warning.

Thanks to the hard work of El Mayimbe over at Latino Review, we have some possible details about the future of the Hulk. Be sure to check out his video blog that goes through the finer points of his scoop. We’ll lay out the info in brief below:
  • Don’t expect to see the Hulk until 2015′s The Avengers 2, as per Feige. However, DO expect to see a third act or post-credits scene of the sequel that sets up Hulk’s next standalone picture.
  • Apparently, after being deemed a serious threat to the Earth by Marvel’s Illuminati (a secret organization of powerful heroes that includes Tony Stark/Iron Man, the soon to be introduced Doctor Strange and others), the Hulk is shipped off into space.
  • Once spacebound, the report states that Hulk’s next film will be centered around comic writer Greg Pak’s Planet Hulk. The idea is that Hulk has already spent a lot of time smashing puny humans and puny Gods, so let’s take his story to an alien planet where he can extraterrestrials to his hearts content.
  • The arc of Planet Hulk centers on the Hulk as he becomes enslaved on the planet Sakaar, is forced to participate in gladiatorial games and eventually becomes a hero of the rebellion against the Red King.

The story doesn’t end here however, because as cool as the idea of Gladiator-meets-Hulk is, it gets better. Here’s another spoiler alert if you don’t want to know about Hulk’s possible involvement in The Avengers 3.
  • At the end of Planet Hulk, some events transpire that get the Hulk pretty pissed off. The only thing worse than an enraged Hulk is one with an army of loyal followers. The theory goes that Hulk and his warbound fighters will return to Earth in The Avengers 3 to follow Pak’s World War Hulk story arc.
  • The story of World War Hulk is pretty crazy but basically involves the Hulk and his warriors beating the shit out of every hero and heroic team on Earth, eventually pitting them against each other in the Hulk’s own version of gladiatorial combat.
  • One thing that makes the standalone Hulk movie more probable is the fact that Mark Ruffalo has signed on for a six-picture deal with Marvel and it is doubtful that he’ll be happy to just appear in post-credits or cameos for the rest of his career.

If El Mayimbe’s report pans out and Marvel really does take this track over the next few years, it’s absolutely HUGE for Hulk fans. Honestly, the guy needs to get off the Earth and stretch his legs a little bit. And what better way to freshen up the Avengers than by having them fight each other in the third installment? Since this isn’t confirmed and it’s way too early for Marvel’s timetable to release anything official, expect a denial (or better yet, silence) for the time being. Would you like to see Planet Hulk/World War Hulk become a reality? Let us know in the comments!

Sounds interesting.

So is The Avengers going to be a trilogy? Or are we going to see more than that?

I figure that most of the stars (RDJ, Hemsworth, Evans, etc) are signed up for 6, their own trilogy and TA trilogy. So will we see a bunch of reboots or just a new cast after that?

Regardless, I think if it ends with The Avengers 3, it will be pretty epic. The final film of the MCU, for now.

Feige has already said, when an actor leaves the role, that they'll keep going with the character and just recast, like the James Bond series, and keep the same continuity. I think the MCU will be around for quite a while, because there is so much to do and to explore. I really can't wait to see how all this plays out.

Actually RDJ's contract is expiring after Iron Man 3, but I'd be surprised if he and Marvel didn't renew right away, especially since he loves playing the character.

I'm pretty sure that they've probably already talked about the renewal. Downey, Jr. hinted at that at Comic-Con over the summer, and I think it's safe to say, with the rumors about Iron Man turning up in 'Guardians of the Galaxy', that Downey, Jr. has probably at least been signed again for at least three more films, being 'Guardians', and the next two 'Avengers' films. Anything outside of that? Who knows.

Love the sounds of what might happen with the next standalone HULK film. However, having him come back to Earth to play bully with the Avengers gang sounds a bit ridiculous.

Get HULK into space. Get HULK onto another planet. Get HULK to gain the respect of those inhabiting the planet. And, let HULK live out the rest of his days there.

I don't want to see him turned into THAT kind of villain. Besides, if it was that apparent that he was a danger on Earth, I think Banner would be smart and mature enough to say, "I understand why this was done and I have no choice but to respect the actions of my former alliance members."

Well, he wasn't in the comics, and he was pissed. Especially after
[Show spoiler]the planet he ends up becoming ruler of, and where he begins his family, is destroyed by the same guys who sent him there.
He comes back for vengeance, not just to bully them for some reason. He becomes a fallen hero. I think it's actually a great dynamic for them to go, because it'll be hard to know just who to root for, and why. I mean, it creates quite the conflict, and that's what's awesome about it.

Stark and Banner definitely had a bromance thing going on, how do you deal with the fact that you may have
[Show spoiler]killed your friend's wife, and left him for dead. And how do you react to it when he comes back to settle the score?
I think it opens a lot of interesting stories and sides, and I love the idea of it being played out on screen. It could be huge.

Not to mention, Hulk has been a villain for the Avengers, more than once. It's an unfortunate part of being him. People are naturally scared of him, and for decent enough reason, because of all the damage he's done and all the power he has. He really isn't a hero or a villain, he's a guy who wants to be left alone and to find himself. That's what makes the character tick.

I would love it if Sony and Marvel were able to cut a deal to get Spider-Man in one of these films.

So, what you are saying is that
[Show spoiler]the Avengers banish HULK to space. He lands on a planet, becomes ruler of the planet, has a family, and then the Avengers come to that planet and destroy everything on it
?

That could make sense to me. However, my question becomes,
[Show spoiler]how the hell did the Avengers just happen to go to this one planet of all of the planets in the universe and what was their reason for destroying it
?

As you can tell, I never read the comics.

Hmmm... just read that myself. So,
[Show spoiler]the spaceship explodes and kills his wife and unborn child. But, is that a human wife who was banished with him? Or did he mate with some strange alien creature? This is just getting all too weird

I prefer my MCU to stay within a reasonable realm of reality and not go too far into the extremes of some of these comic books.

It's an alien wife. What realm of realty are we talking about? The same realm where we have aliens invading New York City, a man who gets angry turns into a giant monster, a man stays alive by powering himself with a power cell, a man was frozen for decades and is unthawed in the present and has super human strength and agility thanks to serum, and Norse gods real? Oh, and we have a talking racon with a rocket launcher, and a giant talking tree debuting next year. Yep, that's definitely a realm of believability.

Honesty, I think it's a good thing that Marvel is willing to go out and actually explore their comic stories, and not stick with the conventional stories. That's a good thing. I constantly hear people saying they want change in the films, and that's what marvel is trying to do here, but when they talk about it, people get upset and say it shouldn't happen. It doesn't make sense to me. Either we want change and to see new worlds, and seeing new and exciting stories with existing characters, or we don't. I'll take the change, and delving deeper into the comics. These are comic book films, after all.

I wouldn't mind seeing the death of Captain America if done properly either.

[Show spoiler]
In the aftermath of Civil War, Captain America is taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody where he is assassinated per the order of the Red Skull. Crossbones snipes at him while Sharon Carter, who has been brainwashed by Doctor Faustus posing as a S.H.I.E.L.D. psychiatrist, delivers the killing blow. S.H.I.E.L.D. director Tony Stark and Black Widow hunt Captain America's murderers. Falcon, Captain America's old partner, follows his own leads to find the killers. Meanwhile, Bucky Barnes decides to kill Tony Stark, blaming him for Captain America's death.

I liked the comics these were based on quite a bit, and Planet Hulk would probably work as the next Hulk movie. That being said, what about the setup they had in the last Hulk film with The Leader? Also, out of all the awesome bad guys they have to choose from for the Avengers to face, I think it would be rather boring to have the villain be the Hulk along with some aliens in part 3. I was already a little disappointed that they went with Loki (Who Thor already beat alone in his film) and some generic aliens for the first film. Assuming we get Thanos for part 2 which should be good, I want to see something new, like Ultron or Kang or a team of villains like the Masters of Evil would be really cool and different. Having the villain just be the Hulk with some generic looking aliens will feel too similar to the first movie. If they are going to go down the route of not knowing which heroes to root for, I would love to see them take on the Civil War, which was already hinted at in the first film. That could be really interesting!

Not feelin' it. A key reason people responded to Hulk in The Avengers was the performance of Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (that, and Joss Whedon's dialog). You have to have both - a compelling Banner, and a smart script, in order to make all the mayhem surrounding the Hulk more than just senesless video game action.

Hulk leaping about on an alien planet and leading an army sounds like John Carter: The Don't Make Him Angry edition. Again, not feelin' it.

The more I think about it, the more I think it wouldn't make sense, even if I would LOVE to see it happen. They're missing too many key components for the stories, and now that Hulk has just finally caught on in 'Avengers', I can't see Marvel turning Hulk into a misunderstood villain by 'Avengers 3'. Ruffalo as Banner is a huge selling point for the series. Last thing they'd want to do is get rid of him and have an only CG character. As much as I think it would be awesome to see 'Planet Hulk' on screen, I just don't know if Marvel is quite ready for something like that yet.

Personally if they made The Hulk the villain who fights against The Avengers that would ruin the first film for me. Everybody enjoyed Mark Ruffalos portrayal of Dr. Banner and for Marvel to get rid of him would be ridiculous. I loved the team aspect of The Avengers and think it should stay that way, where they are all fighting together not against each other. That would destroy all the good work from the first film and would contradict The Avengers ethos. I don't read the comics but surely there are other evil villains in the comic book world of The Avengers that could be used.

Making the Hulk a villain or enemy is a cop out. They can make it an animated movie like they did with Planet Hulk but for the love of all that is holy and decent I don't want them ruining the live action films!

It just sounds like a really bad idea. Just my opinion.
