I have The Burning and Phantasm 2 pre-ordered, however this is an amazing counterpunch by Arrow Video. I will own Motel Hell, Deranged, and Squirm day one.

By the way, if you want a cheap reliable region-free player I recommend a refurbished Insignia NS-BRDVD4. My player only cost me $65 shipped and it's been my stand-alone player for a couple years.

2013 is starting with a cult bang

What does have to do with Shout! Factory? I've been wondering as to what's the connection?

Maybe MGM sold some of their titles to Arrow in a seperate deal - its hard to really say unless someone who is an insider can confirm it.
I will get Squirm because I know it will be packed with extras , the only concern is how their transfer looks compared to the DVD. Some of the Arrow releases have been iffy sort to speak...
Imagine if they got Without Warning..now I guess we should all point at the Arrow and ask...
I wish Shout would have gotten Squirm..I know it was shot down somewhere at some point.
It could very well be that Arrow will release what Shout isnt but it also could be entirely unrelated

Well that doesn't really make sense. The only thing this means for Shout is proof that HD masters are avalible for the films.

These titles were probably licensed off MGM UK.

I personally think that Arrows MGM transfers will be good, as their iffy transfers were all from Italy

Well their Romero transfers were DNR'd quite a bit and they weren't made in Italy.

Which ones? Their Dawn transfer is superior to the US one.

It's not that they "thought" it resembled Jaws, it LOST a LAWSUIT. In court.
Hence the ban, backed by legal authority. Copyright legal authority, which is why most studios do keep a "patent" attorney on hand. ("Yeah, but maybe the Statute of Limitations is over, and they can come back from over the border now under an assumed name!")
For every movie we think "might" be an undeclared plagiarism, very few have ever actually made it to completed litigation and judgment...The Lion King was settled out of court with Tezuka's estate, wasn't it?

Yeah, is there some shared licensing deal/distributor that makes us care what Arrow does in the UK on its own time? Apart from reassurances of "Wow, someone could still find the title, it's still out there in good condition!", is one a subsidiary branch of the other, and that's somehow a harbinger of the title being available or not available for SF in North America? Am I missing something?
Thought most international labels pretty much stop at their own borders, and are responsible for their own marketing.

I really miss the excitement on this thread from Scream announcing titles. It seems like lately other then new covers and extras, this thread has become nothing but wish lists and Arrow announcements, with the occasional non horror title from Shout. Don't get me wrong, Scream has lots of great upcoming titles but it's almost unfortunate in a way that they announced all of their titles so early. I guess it's one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't scenarios.

Hopefully Scream can start announcing some new titles even if it's only one title a month, it makes the month, and this thread, a lot more exciting. Scream still has the superior line up in my opinion, but Arrow has been really picking up steam as of late, and with titles that I thought for sure Scream would have grabbed, like Motel Hell, Squirm, and Deranged.

Isn't it obvious? People here are always asking Cliff "what about this movie" or "that one", "do you guys have the rights to this"? When Cliff answers "no" to a title that would seem to be right up Shout's alley (like Without Warning), one naturally deduces that somebody else may have it. Arrow has obviously made a deal with MGM so now we know where some of those titles Cliff said no to may have ended up with.

I guess it'd be redeundant for them to take on it if that's how they feel.

Yeah but just because Arrow has the rights to them in the UK dosen't mean Scream or someone else can't release them in North America. The only relation they really have is that it shows that an HD master does exist for said film, and hopefully Scream or someone else can jump on it and give us a release here, even more so now that Arrow titles are no loger region free.

Well no it is not obvious at all, seeing as shout are a US based distributor, and ARROW are here in the UK. They are two completely different licensing territories so that makes no sense. If mgm licensed a title such as 'squirm' to arrow that doesn't mean that shout can't license it for the US market

i just recieved halloween 3 my first purchase from shout. its a great set, but do all shouts releases start on the first frame of movie after selecting play from the menu? that kinda annoyed me how, at least with my player,it was a freeze frame before the logo starts, instead of going to black or the warnings and then the movie.

Is there a possibility of Scream Factory doing a release of Army of Darkness? If this has been answered before, sorry to bring it up again. I'm just hoping someone someday can do a really great special edition blu-ray of that title. Both Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 have had pretty good special editions put on blu-ray and it's about time Army of Darkness got the same kind of treatment.

FWIW, there's a 6-disc German release coming up that features the 4 different cuts of the film.

It could very well be that Arrow will release what Shout isnt but it also could be entirely unrelated

But they're 2 different markets, Shout can release any MGM that Arrow has because its a different region. MGM US and MGM UK have different "jurisdictions".

Multi-region player owners expect everyone to own multi-region players, I guess. Kind of annoying, really.

Exactly, they could be entirely unrelated -
Arrow could also release Army of Darkness (anyone recall the MGM Hong Kong version which is the best of the DVD releases? )

I wish some of Arrows releases were coming from Scream but SF has a lot of great stuff coming up like the Fog, Howling, the Burning...

The same company, Koch, will also be releasing a BD box of the Darkman trilogy with extras including the TV pilot, and a deluxe Punisher (1989) set.
