I'm of the very strong opinion that ILM's work on Davey Jones still hasn't been surpassed, in terms of photorealistic CG character. In 48fps, Gollum in the Hobbit got real damn close but it's still not Davey Jones. To me, he's the true landmark of CG character design and execution.

My favorite ILM past work? Gosh, there's so many to choose from. If I had to pick only one though, it's gotta be there work on Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. There's a reason Lucas hasn't really messed with that film's effect shots. There were that damn awe inspiring back in '80. Just gorgeous work top to bottom on that picture.

I'm obviously very much looking forward to their work on Pacific Rim and Into Darkness but I gotta say, I want to see ILM do another Rango. What they did with Rango is nothing short of otherworldly. It easily rivals the best of Pixar and maybe even surpasses the best of Pixar. There are times that I've watched Rango on BD without the sound on, just so I could concentrate on the visual. IT. IS. STUNNING.

I hope that under Disney that ILM doesn't get allowed to do another full on animated picture. We need more competition in that department and ILM could provide that.

At the end of the day, I don't care what everyone in the industry says, ILM's work still hasn't been surpassed yet. I mean, say what you will about the Transformers films but ILM's work in that is just...
