Had a lot of fun, already seen it twice(it's better the second time, there's a lot of foreshadowing and references to the Raimi films that I missed the first time)

Having seen both Evil Dead films recently(ED hasn't aged well, ED2 is still great) I'd place this above the first film but below the second. Great performance from Jane Levy, and some very well done gore. I quite liked the addiction subplot, made it an interesting metaphor for resistance.

And that after-credits scene

Hope they do a sequel.
Definitely picking up the Blu, though I hope it's the original NC-17 cut(maybe I've been desensitized, but I thought it could've been even gorier)

The only other thing they could've added was someone losing their intestines Although, I'm hoping they reinstate David's scene with the chainsaw... as to who he's chopping up, the only logical possibility is
[Show spoiler]Natalie, as she basically only seemed to have passed out by David when she appeared no longer possessed. He might've tested the theory of the book in regards to dismemberment by strapping her down and chopping her up in the workshed. Olivia was another possibility, but she seemed pretty done for by Eric bashing her brains in.

As for other scenes that could be added to an alternate cut,
[Show spoiler]the trailers/TV spots showed two shots of Mia walking down the road the morning after her battle with The Abomination. According to the script, a redneck couple was meant to pick her up, only for the audience to see that she was possessed once again. Meanwhile, there's a rumor that another possibility was that she would've been picked up by someone we don't see right away, only for the driver to be revealed as Ash... not sure if there's any truth in that.

Also, I'm hoping we see this, but Fede Alvarez mentioned that a lot of the Mia taunting footage ("We're gonna get you...", "Cut it!", etc) was part of 20+ minutes of both Jane Levy improvising and Alvarez giving her ideas to work with, all while letting the camera run. That would be an epic extra There's actually similar footage of Ellen Sandweiss as Possessed Cheryl in the extras for the original Evil Dead.

There wouldn't be horror films in the first place if everyone did things logically in all these movies. They would never get into the messes they end up in if it isn't for illogical actions

I don't really care what anyone thought of it. I loved it and that's really all that matters. When it comes out on Blu I will buy it and enjoy it again.
The thing with this movie and others in this situation is that I think majority of people liked it or loved it, but (a lot of) the people who didn't like it are more vocal and obnoxious, as is most always the case.
Can't wait to pick it up.

We know you don't care what others think - you're not supposed to . Everybody likes what they like and that's life. Personally, I didn't hate the film. I just thought it was generic and by-the-numbers - that's all.

This movie was a freaking blast. I was fortunate enough to attend Fangoria's Evil Dead Premiere party on April 4th. Got to meet Jane Levy, took pictures and she signed an Evil Dead poster and also the cover of Fangoria with her tongue split Afterwards, saw the movie at AMC 25 Empire in times square at 10p.m. The crowd was insane. Haven't had that much fun since Avengers! Will def. be picking up the blu day 1 and hopefully I can check this out again before it leaves the theatre.

The movie wasn't too bad overall. I liked the gore and atmosphere. The plot was as good as you could expect given the original plot was pretty simple itself. This one added a few details without going overboard.
[Show spoiler]I didn't like how they left out one of the creepiest scenes in horror history "We're gonna get you!!". It was in the trailer, why get rid of something so good in the final film? I also didn't like David, the brother of Mia at all. Too many stupid decisions by him late in the film. His girlfriend also served no purpose in the movie except to die. In fact that was probably the movies biggest flaw is that it didn't really have a strong lead character like the original. Sure Ash was goofy, but you always had confidence that he sort of knew what he was doing and could handle himself if need be. Plus he was just likeable. I just felt like I couldn't get behind any of these dim witts in this movie and was only waiting for them to die. Even Mia in the end, I couldn't really root for her because 10 minutes before the end of the film she was trying to kill everyone!
Other than that, the movie was actually quite good.

Btw, not sure if anyone else mentioned this... but do you think we'll get a Bruce Campbell producer commentary? I know Rob Tapert was the one producer who was actually on set most (doesn't hurt that he apparently lives in New Zealand these days), but we all know how epic Campbell's commentaries can be

Too many stupid decisions? What do you expect it's a horror movie? If they made smart decisions they wouldn't be in any of that mess.

Just because the Oldsmobile is in this movie doesn't make it a sequel in fact every movie Sam Raimi's name is in some way attached to it that takes place between 1973 (Model year of the car.) to now it's going to be in it. Except for Army Of Darkness but it was only in the past because it traveled back in time with ASH.

went to see Evil Dead with our families... it wasn't to bad and liked the direction they took the film but still missed original comedy moments but happy they made a new version for the younger generation to enjoy. us old heads will always have Evil Dead memories to talk about .

I didn't mean to come off as rude! I apologize, I just wrote this for those who get worked up about others not liking it. I just meant to say - in the end, who cares if some others hated it, because if you enjoyed it then continue to enjoy it again and again, just as they will move on and enjoy other movies again and again.

Haven't you heard? Everyone's bootlegging new releases, and apparently Sony's cool with this. J/K

I saw this in theaters Saturday night, and can't wait to own the unrated/NC-17 version on Blu-ray.

Awesome. Only Blu-ray I know I'm buying this year along with Django. Hopefully it has the NC-17 rated version with a doc on how they did all of the special effects.

[Show spoiler]Does anyone know why those people in the opening scene were at the cabin? Didn't that cabin belong to Mia's family's? Just wondering since they said that they would go there as kids and theres pictures of them as kids in the cabin? Also the people in that opening scene looked pretty creepy? any connections to the original movies in that scene? I haven't seen them.
