Any reason for that?
I just dont find them interesting or impressive. I usually just find myself bored and baffled by the praise. If others like him, great. More power to 'em. Just not my kind of thing I guess.

Same here. Not feeling the love for PTA's output at all.

I can't think of another American Director I like more right now. This will be my most anticipated film of 2014

Fair enough, I'd understand if you were referring to The Master and There Will Be Blood, but his earlier stuff like Boogie Nights and Magnolia (to a certain degree) are little more easier to digest for a casual audience.

There will be Blood was actually a little better for me than Boogie Nights or Magnolia. ...a little.

I haven't read the Pynchon novel, but this sounds amazing. PTA is my favorite living director and I'm curious to see him work with Robert Downey Jr.

I'll probably read the novel afterwards. I don't want the film to lose a bit of its impact.

I read about half of the novel, it was enjoyable enough but I put it away because I didn't want to see how it ended.

Besides, I'm sure PTA will take some liberties anyway.

And sure I would've loved RDJ in this, but Joaquin's not bad and with Charlize (!) rumored; in what is a Long Goodbye+The Big Lebowski concoction (with a PTA twist)--this project is so far up my alley it's paying rent.

In glad Jpaquin got the main role. There wasn't a better performance in 2012 than that of Freddie Quell in the Master.
