Default Lets settle it here which site do you like better Rotten Tomatoes or iMDB?

I have a few friends that say Rotten Tomatoes sucks, that its not very thorough or easy to navigate. I say iMDB while its a good inforative website is very bland and boring to look at. What does the Blu community think? Which is your favorite of the two?

no offense, but what does this have to do with blu-ray? I have noticed the forums getting overrun with crap like this a lot lately. I wish blu-ray.com would continue to focus on all subjects BLU-RAY. Anyway, sorry I wasted time posting in your thread.

IMDB. i find it annoying when people constantly quote rottentomatoes. But then I think the best way to find out if a movie is good is to see it yourself. I'm the best critic I know. I know what movies I like. No one can tell me what is or isn't a great movie.... Rant off.

Since I'm not a fan of reading criticism of films (but I am more than happy to be one who drivvles criticism of films - a double standard, I know) I avoid RottenTomatoes.com. And since RottenTomatoes.com is primarily a review site I never visit it.

IMDB.com on the other hand is a different story. When I'm curious about anything production wise (which I fervently am) it is the only site that is detailed enough to give me answers. If I want to know filming locations, cast, budgets, award nominations/wins, and almost anything else that you can think of... there is no substitute for IMDB.com

They are two different types of sites. IMDB is great for generic movie info, actors, production, facts etc. RT is great for reviews.

RT is bookmarked for me and used often, I barely ever check out iMDB.

I use Rotten Tomatoes Daily. I should start checking out IMDB as I constantly disagree with a lot or RT reviewers.

How about neither. I can make up my own mind, instead of relying on some 50+ year old critic who's so far away from the pulse, it's unbelievable.

I don't prefer one over the other. They are completely different. One is a database for movie info, the other movie reviews. I personally have major issues with the critic industry in this country and find RT a somewhat fair way to assess how well received a movie is. (much better than tossing your hat in with one critic you indentify with)
However, I firmly believe there should be a website where we "Critique the Critics". Most critics display their personal agenda's more then reviewing on a movie's true merits and there are too many times that it was obvious that the movie in question was not seen by the critic and was reviewed by info passed on, or that a movie was given generally positive reviews due to studio influence.
I believe we should be scrutinizing the critics and keeping their work in check.

collective review wise, RT is probably the best site out there...and with so much crap being put out, it cuts through it pretty well...I don't think I'd bought Michael Clayton, Rescue Dawn or watched The Bank Job w/o the favorable reviews...

imdb I'll just use for stat purposes

Both have their strengths and weaknesses... although I will give Rotten Tomatoes props for their layout as your eyes won't usually find any annoying and or lame user-posted titles of threads on forums to avoid.

Basically, Rotten Tomatoes is the best source for reviews; IMDb for pretty much anything else.

IMDb. There's no comparison. RT is not a proper site for info.

I visit IMDB for all kinds of information on films and only visit RT for audience ratings since critics are universally awful.

IMDb comes into its own with the advanced info on the More tab. Tech specs, soundtracks, alternate versions etc.

For researching filmographies etc I find Wikipedia better than either. I have no interest in reviews or scores.
