Me.

I really liked this film when I saw it on VHS back in the day. I read Bill Murray was determined to make this his dramatic breakout peformance that would open the door to more than comedy. The movie flopped, not least because everyone wanted to see Murray in a comedy and could not accept him as a tormented individual in a war drama. They stayed away, many critcs panned it, and the resulting box office failure so affected Murray he quit acting in movies for an extened period of time (several years, if I recall correctly).

I'm just gonna revive this old thread here.

This definitely deserves a blu-ray release. The story behind this things is very interesting too. Bill shot this right before Ghostbusters... but it wasn't released until after Ghostbusters came out. Columbia even cut some TV spots to make it look more comedic to cash in on GB success.

Despite being fairly young when the film came out (13-14), I do remember most critics lambasting Murray for the role, with several attacking him over his comedic background and starring in a war drama.

Did not see the film until it hit HBO, but loved his performance and the film, even though like many others, I identified him solely as a comedic actor at the time.

When "Lost in Translation" came out nearly 20 years later, critics and fans marveled at the actor's breakthrough dramatic role, but most never realized it actually occurred much earlier in his career.

That said, I hope at some point this gets a release, have not seen the film in over 30 years....
