It's usually a setting that causes a player to do that. Look in the manual for info regarding it, you should be able to turn the setting off. If this is happening with certain discs, such as those from Universal, then you can exit the discs screen savers mode and resume playback without having the player turn off, you just need to workout which button/s on your remote do this for your specific player, it's different between brands.

I took the player back to Kmart and exchanged it for another one.

This one does not seem to turn itself off. Good.

Does anyone else use Valued Opinions? I signed up back in 2009 and have been doing surveys for many years. I got a tonne of $20 Sanity gift cards out of it, leading to many Blu-ray buys. And this year they started offering JB vouchers delivered instantly electronically as soon as your reward balance is high enough. I end up getting one every month or so. It's very useful for getting extras Blus. Currently have a couple vouchers saved for the next 20% off sale.

Tonight I attended a screening of Superman 1978 in Sydney, with special guest Margot Kidder.

My Blu-ray box-set had arrived minutes before I left for Sydney, so of course I took it along, hoping she could sign it. And she did.



I had paid $30 for an autograph ticket and got a photo of her & Chris Reeve as well. I wanted her to sign both but the publicist said "One ticket, one autograph". But she signed both anyway, because "It's not gonna hurt anybody".

What a lovely woman.

Was that at the Orpheum? I was tempted to go, but got put off by the cold weather. I didn't know Margot Kidder was going to be there! :gasp:!!

I was at the screening, too. Had a fantastic time.

I had Margot sign my Superman DVD, which already bore the signatures of Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz. I had her sign it "Can you read my mind?" Cheesy, I know.

Got a photo taken with Margot as well. A lovely woman indeed.

The screening was great -- lots of cheers, laughs and applause. Was wonderful to see everyone was into the film. This was easily the greatest cinematic experience I've ever had.

Yup, at the Orpheum. My first time at that place. It was the Margot Kidder element that persuaded me to come.

When did you meet Donner and Mankiewicz? That's completely badass. You're lucky you got to meet Mankiewicz before his passing.

It was my first time at the Orpheum, too. Really love the 1940s deco look there!

I plan on going back there in September for their screening of the first three Indiana Jones flicks.

I had a hard time making out most of what Margot said at the Q&A because of my hearing problems, so I missed out on a lot of what she said. Despite that, it was great to see the audience loved having Margot there. Loved the standing ovation she got at the end, too -- wasn't expecting that at all!

Unfortunately, I've never met them. Someone in the U.S. had them sign the DVD for me at a DVD signing and then mailed it out to me.

She came over here for Armargeddon one year. A friend of mine was the only one in line with a copy of 'The Amityville Horror'. Everyone else had Superman.

Geez our dollar has gone south rapidly...I don't know about everyone here, but I'm really going to reign in my purchases. I've been a bit looser with the wallet due to the recent good times of our dollar, but I just saw the price of a pre-order from the UK and I've ditched a couple of titles due to how much the postage was going to cost. I hope that Amazon UK bring back free postage!

^Yeah, particularly US titles are going upwards big time. Currently hovering around 90 cents in the dollar when it comes to US titles with the "loose" currency conversion that happens with banks and Amazon.

I could have sworn that I saw Universal Soldier once on 7mate in 4:3 with the black bars on the left and right sides, yet looking at screenshots the film seems to be in 16x9 widescreen. Can anyone clear this up?

It's always had a 2.39:1 aspect ratio so technically an accurate picture on a 16:9 TV should have black bars on the top and bottom. 7 was probably running an ancient broadcast master that was good old pan and scan.

Same here can't do it and its not because of the picture or sound it's the bloody ads they can drag a movie waay beyond my interest
Even tv shows I find myself not watching because of ads iv even turned of games of footy because of the bloody things
Plus I'm a massive hater of the cross promotion jam stuff down ya throat advertising the networks all employ now if I had to hear or see one more piece of rubbish about the bloody voice
