How are these DC films compared to the Marvel Animated?

Already have both parts but will get this anyway for the feature length edit, documentary and commentary plus can't have my DC animated collection missing a release lol

Found about this, and cursed the fact I'll double dip but man I want the commentary! At least Amazon already has it a good starting price and it can only go lower.

Wait till reviews start to come in before I trade in the singles for credit just to make sure I don't need them since people are debating how the runtime might affect things.

They are better than any of the Marvel animated that I own, I can't even explain how good these are. I will double dip for the commentary.

Exactly what I was hoping someone would say while everybody else is celebrating here lol. Thanks a lot WB for rewarding those who bought both original releases less than a year before you made them irrelevant to a superior, cheaper edition. They couldn't even wait longer than six months before greed set in so we don't feel like fools for supporting every lousy DCUA release. The decent thing to do would be to offer a voucher for anyone who already has either/both part 1 & 2 individually to upgrade to this free of charge. I thought Disney was going above and beyond the call of duty offering the $5 3D disc upgrade for Oz but everyone here was acting like that was a slap in the face lol. I definitely won't give in if they ever split one of these up again, "fool me once..." and all that. /rant

Not a fan of double dipping, but I think I'll make an exception.

LOL! Exactly who are the "pirates" now!
I look at it like this: I'll doubledip, and I'll have a nice 3-release set and hopefully WB will put my money to good use and continue with these great DCU releases.

Motherf**ker!

At least it's a decent price and shouldn't lose anything after selling the individual releases. But god damn it, release this kind of thing when the second one comes out or at least let us know this is coming!

First off let me say I'm a much bigger Marvel fan than I am a DC fan. With that said, the DCU line...all of them...blow the Marvel animated line out of the water.
I'll get slammed for this, but the only edge I'll give Marvel is Iron Man: Rise of Technovore. That's because I'm a big anime fan, and I like that art style.
This upcoming Dark Knight Returns I/II will probably be their best release, to date. So you are jumping on at a good time, if you so choose.

Or, here's an idea Warner: DONT SPLIT THEM UP, release it as one film FROM THE START! But i knew they'd release a "complete edition" later on, this is Warner after all...

Nice, now the following months will see the secondary market be flooded with the original releases. The best time to pick them up.

You should know that this is Warner's M.O. At the very least they were going to have a boxset with both included, and some sort of exclusive extras. I held off because I knew I'd be pretty upset if I bought them individually, and they came out with a set with both.

Here's what I posted back in Novemember. Still wish this was a digibook, but beggars can't be choosers

One thing I'm also wondering about is whether they'll combine the 2 parts into one whole movie? I know it was split into two so that they could better adapt the source, but I don't see a reason why they couldn't join the two together down the line. Combined the two will be 2.5 hours, which can easily fit on a single disc.

I'm actually a little surprised that Warner hasn't done this with Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Pt 1 and 2. Part 1 and 2 would fit seamlessly together since the 2nd part leaves off exactly from the first. Maybe that's something they'll do when it gets re-released again.

Yeah definitely. I'll pick it up and replace the ones I have. I only paid 22 for them total and I'm hoping to do the T2G1 from movie stop for this so I don't end up paying anything extra but it seems like a hassle. Though I'm also kind of annoyed that it seems like we're getting this instead of another original movie. Isn't October about the time the next one would be released per their normal release schedule? It'll be nice to have these on one disc but I would have preferred something new. But yeah, if they split one in the future (I know it's been said it's unlikely, but hopefully Kingdom Come) then I will definitely be waiting.

I must say, the artwork for these releases have been excellent. I'd absolutely love a full-size lithograph of all of them individually, or all of them combined.

The covers kind of have a cool transition effect if you put the Deluxe in the middle

Which is why I won't be selling mine. Heck it's not the first time I've doubledipped, and it certainly won't be the last.

It would be cool if they did. But I'm just glad to have the two films housed together in one set in the Ultimate Edition.

I'll probably pick this one up eventually just for the features alone.

I think that, what it all comes down to, is patience. The minute they said "Part I hits in September," I knew this was coming. Is it greedy? Perhaps. Is it understandable? Yes. All of their animated films have been roughly 70 minutes long, so it's only logical that they'd have TDKR be released in a similar manner. Not to mention, part II probably wasn't even completed when Part I came out, and, from the looks of the runtime they've released, there are several minutes of material that are unaccounted for. Now, if that was, indeed new material, that would mean that they probably had to put it together to make the two films run fluidly into one. All the while, they've got other things in production, so, it's pretty reasonable. It being a feature length film, though, it makes me think that it'd be awesome if they did a limited theatrical release.
