Default The next action star?

We had Stallone and Schwarzenegger.... Now alas they are too old to be taken seriously in a real action movie. Who is the next action star that you think will emerge? You know the type, cheesy sometimes but someone who is likable.

I would agree with that statement, although I have not seen I am legend, it's on it way, should be here by friday.

Men in black and independence day are the 2 Will Smith movies that I own and like. I really don't believe in double dipping, so the standard dvd's will have to do for those.

I personally prefer to not see guys get type-casted (even though I'm not a Will Smith Fan anyways) because you see studios "FORCE" out movies to try to placate to the actors, and the plot comes second-hand. I prefer the lesser-known actors or actors crossing their typical genres because you don't know what to expect..... I see Stallone do a drama, and I think "Rambo, Rocky, etc" and it takes away from the movie, because he made a name for himself as a type-casted actor before he started to take other roles.

That's why Daniel Day Lewis is so widely liked.... people say "oh he was great in...." and other people say "oh wow...that was him, didn't even realize that"

Never thought I would say this but The Rock is quickly becoming the next Arnold.

And he's actually a pretty good actor.

The Rock FTW

Yeah, the Rock is a likable character and I hope to see more of him in action movies, ala Doom but better (although I must admit a guilty pleasure).

IMO, Bruce Willis, Matt Damon, Will Smith, etc. are a different kind of action star than Arnold. When I think of guys replacing Arnold I think of guys like The Rock, Vin Diesel, etc. They seem to follow the same blue-print also (lots of action movies with a comedy with kids thrown in at some point). Of the Bruce Willis type action stars I think Will Smith is the guy. Of the Arnold type action stars, I think The Rock has the best chance, at the moment, of becoming the next Arnold.

He really hasn't had any hit action movies. Walking Tall was decent but didn't really go anywhere.
I don't know how it did at the box office but I thought The Scorpion King was a good action movie as well as The Rundown. The Rundown is actually my favorite movie of his. Lots of action and it's pretty funny as well. I also liked Doom but mostly b/c I love the game (don't think it did well at the box office though). Not as action oriented but I thought he did a pretty good job in The Gridiron Gang also.

Jason Statham, perhaps?

But I agree with Will Smith already being there.

Statham is a good call, liked the Transporter (despised part 2). I still have yet to see War.

Mi pick will be Statham, does not always get the best scripts or biggest budget. However, I enjoy his movies a lot.

He can't carry a film. Everything he headlines is either a flop or a very small moderate hit.

We're talking about the next big action star. No way can you go from Will Smith to Jason Statham. That'd be like listing the top NBA players and naming Kobe Bryant, and following that up with Kwame Brown.

Daniel Craig certainly proved he can handle in Casino Royale.

That is who popped into my mind as well. I think Will Smith is a different kind of star. I think someone else said that as well, so I agree with them. Statham's movies tend to be just straight up action for the most part. You don't really get much out of them. They serve their purpose and don't pretend to be anything else. Smith usually does more serious movies that you can get something out of besides just the action.

Agreed, they made some good action movies, but have you seen a recent Stegall movie that was good? I'm talking about the next action star, the guys you listed granted made some good movies, however they are past their prime.
