Several shots are obviously (and terribly) converted from 2D - not only are things layered wrong, but it's clear they were only using a couple depth maps or depth map templates per scene, changing them out when major movement occurs - you can see objects shift instantly and unnaturally in depth when they do this. Almost all the 3D is so shallow it's hardly noticeable anyway, and the framing is exactly like any other no-budget 2D flick - no attempt whatsoever to make actual use of the format. Utterly worthless.

The film itself was terrible too... easily the worst Asian horror remake of them all, which is saying something considering the competition. Incoherent, essentially no story, no scares, and almost all the acting is completely terrible. The original wasn't great, but it looks like a masterpiece of terror and smart storytelling in comparison. They changed a lot here but none of it was for the better. Even the awful original ending has been replaced by one that's somehow worse.

It's not worth any price.
Thanks for the review, I had been reading reviews about this one and was going to avoid it. This review is the most informative though and ill defently avoid it even more so now, not worth the price of a tic tac it seems.

Thanks for the 3D review UFAlien.

Saw World War Z and the 3D was really good. Enjoyed the movie also. The final scene has some scary horror going on.

EDIT: "Really good" for the medium to stronger 3D layering, pop outs, but wasn't really looking for conversion errors.

I watched Hybrid 3D yesterday and you know what, even though it was daft as hell, I actually really enjoyed it! I got quite a bit of ghosting with my display though unfortunately, particularly during the opening in the night time city. The ghosting on all the lights was a nightmare. It showed up now and then throughout the rest of the movie which was a shame. Overall though the 3D was good and the direction quite inventive considering the budget and concept.

The very idea is scary enough.

Thanks for posting that 3D info, Levcore: The dark backgrounds with isolated bright lights combined with stronger 3D gives us that ghosting effect until the next generation of 3DTV's offer the ability to completely block out all light in the opposing eye. Current 3D glasses technology can't do it, so the high contrast light still appears through the darkened crystal lens.

That would be interesting, and nice if the 3D was at minimum medium 3D/not weak.

Thanks for the info Zivouhr, that's interesting to know and explains why the ghosting was so evident. Although I have a lot of 3D blus and it's not always bad on night time scenes, just in certain movies.

Two Japanese 3D movies from Takashi Shimizu the Director of the Ju-On/Grudge series:

Shock Labyrinth 3D

Tormented 3D

They have gotten mixed reviews. I really like them; and enjoyed their plots with shuffled timelines and creepy imagery which Ju-On/Grudge had. The 3D I found was effectively deeper than most 3D releases, but many people didn't like its over-use of CGI pop-out effects and dark/blurry scenes. They are the first two in the Rabbit Horror 3D series; more expected to come. The price on these was nice. I'm already seeing them in the clearance sections of HMV stores here.

Really? I have "Afterlife" in 3D but haven't watched it yet. Now I'm intrigued.

I thought it was okay. I much prefer Retribution's 3D.

Wow, i honestly didn't find the 3D to be as bad as that. I thought it was quite effective, only problem was the setting/ direction didn't really allow for much in the way of interesting composition / depth. I agree the movie is a dog though!

Yes, also ghosting from the strong 3D contrasts in My Bloody Valentine 3D.

Horror in 3D:
Pacific Rim 3D is more of a Godzilla like sci fi than horror, but it does have monsters.
World War Z 3D was worthwhile and getting a sequel.

Silent Hill Revelation has great 3D.
Underworld Awakening in 3D.
Piranha 3D and 3DD.
Creature from the Black Lagoon 3D

I watched Hidden 3D the other day. It started off really good but took a serious nosedive in quality about halfway through. The setting was great. The 3D was very effective and well done, exterior shots looked absolutely amazing!

I don't actually own a single horror movie. May be blasphemy to some but I've always thought them sort of cheesy. Just never could get into the genre.
