I got the college football package a couple years ago but wouldn't do it again. For one thing all the games were in standard def, although that could have changed by now or it could have just been that my provider didn't carry the HD package. Like others have stated it seems like there's already plenty of good games on and ESPN3 carries many of the games that are aired on the package. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a fan of a specific team or conference that really gets coverage in your area that you know the package carries.

Apparently whoever made Menelik Watson of Florida State's conference championship rings from last season doesn't know what conference FSU plays in, or they wanted to make it seem like they're in a tougher conference:

[IMG][/IMG]

Oddly, it appears that Watson was the only FSU player to get a ring with the wrong conference on it and he will get a replacement ring.

It's hardly a secret that very, very few people in and around Penn State are happy with the NCAA's unprecedented sanctions against the Nittany Lions in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky abuse scandal. But officially, the school has -- to-date -- accepted the NCAA's decision and made no effort to reduce the sanctions.

Could that stance be changing? The Centre Daily Times reported that coach Bill O'Brien met with Penn State trustees for a private presentation Friday, one that included computer slides visible to the Daily Times reporter through "several full-length, glass-paned doors into the room where the session was held."

One of the slides bore the heading "potential proposal to modify sanctions."

Another detailed the impact of the NCAA's scholarship reductions. Another, per the Daily Times, emphasized that "Individual lawsuits do not help us!" with the words 'do not' underlined and in capital letters."

The family of the late Joe Paterno has sued the NCAA and president Mark Emmert in an effort to overturn the sanctions, which include the vacation of 111 of Paterno's wins at Penn State. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett's similar suit was dismissed by a judge in June.

Neither O'Brien nor any of the trustees commented on the presentation after the meeting adjourned.

The NCAA said last August that the penalties were not subject to appeal, though that did not stop trustee Ryan McCombie, present at Friday's meeting, from sending a letter to the NCAA stating his intent to file an appeal all the same. Trustee Alvin Clemens said in February that the university's governing board would need to review the findings of its commissioned Freeh Report, which was used as the basis for the NCAA's sanctions.

Another trustee, Paul Silvis, told the Daily Times in March that he hoped the NCAA would roll back some of the sanctions after seeing the progress made by the school in the wake of the scandal. The NCAA handed Penn State a four-year bowl ban, stripped it of 40 scholarships and fined the school $60 million.

O'Brien was asked in May if he thought the sanctions would be reduced.

"I believe that's a question for somebody other than me," the coach told reporters at a Penn State caravan stop in New York. "I'm playing under these rules. I think that's a question for our administration or NCAA itself. My answer would be no, but that question would be for somebody else."

CBSSports.com writer Dennis Dodd contributed to this report.

He plans on running for reelection, but he won't win.

Let me tell you, he is one arrogant guy.

Sounds like a Florida Gator wants to be a Georgia Bulldog.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/...ing-police-dog

Quote:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida Gators linebacker Antonio Morrison has been arrested for the second time in five weeks, this time for allegedly barking at a police dog and resisting arrest, and will miss at least the first two games of the season after being suspended from the team Sunday.

Morrison's defense was the dog barked first, according to a police report.

According to an Alachua County Sheriff Office's report, police responded to a suspicious incident and disturbance call at 3:43 a.m. Sunday at a Gainesville hotel adjacent to a nightclub. While officer William A. Arnold was investigating the vehicle that was the subject of the call, a group of several men were walking along SW 13th Street.

One of the men reportedly approached the patrol car and began barking at his police dog through the open window. The report said that caused the dog, named Bear, to bark back at the man, which Arnold says in his report diverted his attention from investigating the vehicle.

The report says Arnold told the man -- later identified by his driver's license as Morrison -- to wait in front of his patrol car and the man resisted when Arnold tried to handcuff him. Two other officers arrived and helped detain Morrison, according to the report.

"I'm extremely disappointed in Antonio Morrison's decision making," Florida coach Will Muschamp said in a statement. "He has been suspended from the team and will miss at least two games to begin the season."

Alachua County Sheriff's spokesman Art Forgey said it's rare for someone to harass a canine officer.

"We don't see that very often at all," he said. "Gainesville Police Department has horses and they see it sometimes. Usually everybody steers clear of the dogs."

Morrison -- a 6-foot-1, 230-pound sophomore expected to be the Gators' starting middle linebacker this season -- told the officers he barked at the dog because the dog barked at him first.

He was booked into the Alachua County Jail at 4:15 a.m. ET.

Just curious if any of you have heard about the UNC academic scandal or if the ACC and ESPN are doing a good job at keeping it under the radar?

It should be one of the biggest non-criminal scandals in years, but for some reason the press is giving it very little coverage. It may just be that academic scandals aren't all that exciting, but there's a ton of evidence that grades were being changed, signatures were being forged, and some classes required little or no attendance, and it wasn't just athletes, it was some of the general student population. It obviously hasn't been kept completely under wraps since North Carolina got a bowl ban last year and a loss of scholarships, but it should be a bigger deal. The NCAA acted way too fast by banning UNC from a 2012 bowl because evidence is still coming out that is making UNC look even worse that could warrant further punishment.

Academics never get much publicity, but the NCAA still can come down hard. FSU got slapped a few years back (vacated 12 wins). UGA had their own about 10 years back, but it was really rather minor (about 5 players got credit for a class taught by the coaches son without attending).

Ohio State has reportedly dismissed leading rusher Carlos Hyde from the team. Hyde was listed as a person of interest in a police report from a weekend assault. Hyde had 970 yards rushing and 17 total touchdowns in 10 games last season.

Ohio State is also reviewing the status of starting cornerback Bradley Roby. Roby was arrested in connection with the assault Saturday night. Roby is one of the top returning cornerbacks in the country.

Way to ratchet up the "friendly barb" by a mere order of magnitude or two. Subtle.

The Columbus Dispatch's report that Carlos Hyde has been dismissed from the team was incorrect, and instead Hyde has been suspended "from all football team activities pending the outcome of the student code of conduct and criminal investigations."

It was a busy weekend for Ohio State players. In addition to Hyde being investigated for an assault and Bradley Roby being arrested for battery there were also two arrests of incoming freshman players. Three-star defensive lineman Tim Gardner was arrested for "obstruction of official business" and will not be a member of the team in 2013 and four-star tight end Marcus Baugh was arrested for underage drinking and possession of a fake ID and will miss the first game of the season.
