I think At World's End was more to do with a New Hollywood-esque vanity project for Verbinski than anything else; it's a tonal departure from the two preceding it, and is so bloated and over-the-top that it's almost reminiscent of Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate fiasco, so I wouldn't imagine Disney will be willing to do that again any time soon.

As for the supernatural aspect, I'm completely fine with that; I've never realised that a lot of people have had problems accepting it until now, but I can't understand why.

They spent so much time dragging around Chinese dungeons, I literally forgot what the movie was about a week after seeing it. We had big scenes, fireworks and chases, 'n stuff, but I couldn't keep track of...what they were trying to accomplish by them.
It was only playing the Lego videogame that I finally had some A-B context of "Oh, that's what they were doing, so they could go get that!"

P3, like the Matrix sequels, was the definitive example of why NOT to give into that easy studio lure of pre-greenlighting two serial sequels at once--
The #2 will be bloated with subplots that never get resolved, like the Harry Potter and Twilight Finale-Pt. 1's, and by #3, paint themselves into so many off-topic subplot screenwriting corners, there's no room left for the main hero to fight the main villain anymore.
By the end of P3, it was all about Will & Elizabeth, and Jack ended up as a kind of loser hanger-on that the script had to establish reasons they didn't simply dump him overboard.

I think you're confusing runtimes. the third one was almost 3 hours long, the fourth one was only a 137 minutes long, not nearly 3 hours.

I think that I am almost the only one who thinks that the 3rd At Worlds End was freaking awesome. The 4th was horrible. The first movie was good, the second was even better.
I must have watched the trilogy over ten times by now and still think that the 3rd one is the best.

Agree with most everything. Although i didnt like At Worlds End very much when I first saw it because it is just so much. A little dense and complex and kinda cluttered in a lot of ways. But it works better at home than it did in theaters and is a nice capper to the trilogy.

I have to agree. It's a lot to take in when you see it for the first time. I was almost disappointed when I left the theater back then. But the more I watched it at home, the more I started liking it. When everything started to sink in, i was amazed how good that movie really is. I also think that the soundtrack of the movie was a perfect match.

I love 1 2 and 4 is good. 3 runs a bit too long, but the Whirlpool scene is fantastic.

sounds like Pirates 5 is sure to suck since they wanna cut the budget. And we all know Depp is not gonna take a pay cut so that money is gonna come off the production budget. So yet again a Pirates movie with NO ACTION!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Thankfully, Jeff Nathanson is the new script writer for Pirates 5. Pirates 4 is actually 2 hours and 17 minutes, not nearly 3 hors long or 3 hours long.

I hope you are right but lots of Part 5's went really cheap and lazy and were a lot shorter than their predecessors:

I dont think they can go any bigger than 2 and 3 but they have some serious making up to do for On stranger tides. Less visual effects and more fun, action and adventure.

Just because those movies were shorter then their predecessors, does not mean Pirates 5 will be shorter then Pirates 4. Pirates 4 is 2 hours and 16 minutes and its the shortest of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies so far. I guarantee you Pirates 5 will not be any shorter then that.
